Well, I can say I read a quote that confirms Spike to be the secret love child of Crackle and Derpy, but without evidence, I’m just writing crap.
How many times do we have to go over this? The movies of MLP are Canon unless contradicted by the show. There is nothing to imply the films don’t happen from the main series, so therefore it is Canon. So, Sunset is just as much a character in the franchise as Twilight.
 
Again, if the show don’t express those certain events then they do not exist. Hell, Starlight is treated as Twi’s only student with NO mention of Sunset during the season finale.
