I loved all of the time travel intermissions with Starswirl and the Doctor.

Her backstory is way better here than it was in the show, and that irritates me. God, that was handled so poorly…

The “infinite parallel universe” thing is a handy writing device, but the idea that such a thing would happen in real life is utterly absurd. There is nothing to suggest that there are infinite universes, or that “time travel” would be going to a different one. Time travel creating new universe is an even more absurd idea given the enormous energy required to create a universe. Honestly, from what I’ve seen, time travel is something that is just never going to happen in real life.

Actually, having done some research on this, my wager is that if time travel is possible, it wouldn’t actually be changing your own past, rather, you’d be going into an alternate, parallel universe that is perfectly identical to your universe in all of its history up to to the point where you enter it. Thus, no memory-changing nonsense and no causality violations or unresolvable paradoxes.

I’m pretty sure the standard operating procedure in these cases is to remove the offenders from existence in order to preserve the rest of the universe. Which means Twilight is gone and we’re back to the Alicorn Trixie timeline.

I did say if she actually does adopt little Starlight after all, otherwise the memory feedback loop Starlight is experiencing doesn’t even connect to itself XD Though, Twilight adopting Starlight also means she probably never had a reason to study time travel as a means for revenge in the first place, so the universe either has paradox absorbing crumple-zones, or it’s about to collapse on itself shortly.
 
…and this is why time travel is my most hated science-fiction trope XD

For the sake of not getting into a back-and-forth on this thing, I’ll just say that this is one of those issues that has no definitive right answer to it.
 
Sure, it could be argued that it’s for the greater good, for both Starlight’s happiness and the safety of the universe. Though it has some rather uncomfortable insinuations about the rest of the timeline, and it is still a lie in my opinion, since that is not how the future was meant to play out, and thus Starlight’s memories are essentially false. Because judging from how the time magic worked in the episode, Twilight, Starlight, and Spike would all return to the present day automatically, not living out this history
 
That’s ignoring the fact that the original ending amended things well enough already.

To be fair, it’s not really a lie if she really does go through with it and adopt & raise little Starlight. Yeah, it’d be just as weird a temporal paradox as before and down right nonsensical, but is it so wrong to stop a world-threatening criminal not by locking them up, but by giving them a peaceful life that gives them no reason to fight anymore?

You know, I think Starlight’s reformation would’ve made more sense if Twilight had inserted herself into young Starlight’s timeline.
 
Granted, altering Starlight’s past with friendship would also be a morally ambiguous move on Twilight’s part, but I suppose that’s better than, say, killing past Starlight.

It’d be mind-blowing for sure; I got goosebumps reading this. But that would have been way too weird, intense, and massive for MLP. Hell, the idea that Twilight would create a lie like this is too much to swallow

I didn’t like the ending of the finale much before. But knowing it could have been this? Now I REALLY can’t enjoy it. I would have loved an ending like this. As well as a sadder backstory for Starlight or course.

Actually really cute. Doesn’t make much sense, but cute as all heck.

I laughed my ass off with the AOT reference.

She should’ve said “Come if you want to live with me, Spike.”
