I believe that that panel may have originally been a Take That aimed at Terminator: Salvation… xD

And just like that, the new Terminator movie made panel 6 Hilarious in Hindsight.

In light of Starlight and Trix-Trix being best friends, the thought of Starlight creating a timeline where Trixie is the most beloved pony in the world comes off as even funnier to me.

I like that idea, though I kinda like the “Back to the Future” logic that time runs like a river. If you devert some events, you could still fix them, like a river flowing, and things will get back on track.  
It’s nearly the complete opposite of the famed “Butterfly” effect. You could crush a butterfly, but it won’t turn the future into dystopian nuclear wasteland.

This is why I prefer the Bill & Ted model. Anything you would do in the past is already done. No room for paradoxes. Yeah, it’s a bit fatalistic, but if you haven’t been to the past yet, it’s new to you, so the appearance of free will is maintained.

Yes. She went back in time, and vanished. That’s the only way I feel I can reconcile the concept of time travel and altering the timeline without introducing paradoxes.

But the key part about the “mind rape” thing is that I don’t think Twilight did it, here, just to win Starlight over. I think she did it to genuinely help the filly out. I mean, if I went out and adopted some child orphan out of nothing more than a desire to help them, that’s certainly not scandalous. But if I did it to get someone on my side, then it would be sketchy.
 
I think it’s just the same, here.
 
It doesn’t mean motive is the only thing that matters, ever. Just that in this particular case it is, since the only nefarious part of it is the manipulation part. I don’t think there are any ill effects on Starlight or anypony aside from that possibility of manipulative attitude resulting in behaviors that hurt Starlight’s development :q

Yeah, I was using the term “mind rape” reeeeeally loosely. ;) But it’s only not if the motives are pure, otherwise it gets…sketchy. Making your nemesis love you by going back in time to raise them from fillyhood is kinda very manipulative from certain viewpoints.
 
But I’m sure Twiley’s motives in this comic are coming from a place of pure goodness. <3
 
Actually, earlier seasons would probably play out basically the same. My reasoning is:
 
Young Twiley still was tutored by Princess Celly and sent to Ponyville to make friends to stop Nightmare Moony (yes I nickname everypony, sue me :P) and make her into Princess Lulu again.
 
Older Twiley, being a good mom to little Glimmy, would make sure to keep well out of the way of her younger self and the others of the Mane 6, to avoid contaminating the timeline any further and avoid the risk of UNsolving problems she knows her younger self managed to solve without her (as she was her younger self previously). She and Glimmy would likely only make their first appearance in the timeline after S6-Princess Twiley went back to raise filly!Glimmy.
 
EXCEPT
 
In this timeline, S6-Princess Twiley wouldn’t have any reason to go back and stop Glimmy, as she never tried to take over Equestria and have that time-travel battle with Twiley anyway. So they’re just there one day, solving friendship problems when…Glimmy shows up, and introduces them to her mom - an older Twiley from the original timeline. This timeline would have two Twileys (different ages), whilst the timeline that Twiley left when she went back to stop Glimmy and save Equestria would have…none.

Either you actually did those things with filly Starlight or she fabricated the memories, can’t be both.
 
And if she didn’t, she just earned her love the old fashioned way. Same way a mother earns it from a daughter. That ain’t mind rape.
 
Though going back in time to make it so she loved you since Fillyhood is a bit unusual, perhaps manipulative if the motives and intent aren’t pure. But they were, so it’s not even that. It’s just weird.

I wonder how earlier seasons would go! Keep in mind all those events would still happen in that timeline, but they’d unfold at least a little differently, if not very.
 
But Twilight may have been a diaper-age foal at the time, since Starlight is about as old and seems even a bit older.
 
But current Twilight will need to actually go through with raising Starlight for those memories to exist, since the age difference is there…
 
Ugh, it’s kinda a mess. Doesn’t work logically, actually, but that’s time travel in general :q
