Maybe the umbrium are just possessed by evil magic and are actually good, but act evil, while masquerading as cute victims? Those moon creatures used to be like… nah, it’s likely just IDW, writing by the seat of their butts again. And for dessert the umbrium, Sombra, and Hope’s minions will all be forgiven without a second thought too.

Yes, exactly that. Granted she has her share of naivety as well, but the umbrum really are masters of the long con.
 
Plus, as I’ve said before, she grew up with Sombra. I’m willing to grant that could give her unique insight where he’s concerned.

Did the writers just call young Sombra a “filly”? I knew those guys were kinda dumb, but still…

People sure like to criticize Hope on her “naivety”, but consider also that the Umbrum spent centuries putting on an act for her. That’s a long time for them to leave a good first, second, third, and one-thousandth impression on her.

As the first panel here states, they told her exactly what she wanted to hear, even after seeing Sombra turn evil, turn Amore to crystal, and shatter her.

Yeah, she is a bit (or a lot) naive. Still, as the only one present who really remembers him from before, when he was just (apparently) a lost pony with no knowledge of what he was or what he was to do, I could understand wanting to believe some part of that friend she once had is still in there. It’s a dumb sentiment, but kind of endearing in the right light.
 
Although you would think the skeletal terrifying horse thing would probably dissuade her of that notion pretty quickly.

Beyond my usual complaints about Always Chaotic Evil races in these sorts of settings, I don’t see anything particularly faceplate worthy in this.
