@Thoth
…And we’ll see an awful lot of people wanting her to be punished more… Hopefully these bloodhounds will be cooled off a bit more by next week >.>
@R, Dash
Well, there’s a pretty simple reason why your stupid spell failed: you can’t make someone remember something they already know.
(The following wall of text is to clear the air of any questions you guys may have. This is Gig’s true history, based on a small amount of research and the canon story-line.)
Gig’s Condensed History (To be clear, this is just the important parts, not the whole game)
(Spoilers unmarked, mostly. Don’t like it, don’t read it.)
Centuries ago during an era of ceaseless conflict, one man emerged from the flames of war and brought all of the countries on the continent of Prodesto in the world of Haephnes under his rule. This was Lord Median, the Conqueror. However, in 10 short years, his grand empire began to collapse with the death of his son who succumbed to the deadly disease, Scarlet Iago. In his fury and grief, Lord Median believed the words told to him by the World Ruler Drazil, ruler of the world of the same name, that if Lord Median were to challenge the Master of Death, Vigilance, and successfully slay him, he would rid the world of Death as a whole, be able to live forever and continue governing Prodesto for all of eternity.
Lord Median did indeed challenge the reaper who came to guide his son’s soul to the afterlife and successfully killed him, regardless of Vigilance’s warnings that he was making a mistake. Although Vigilance could have easily destroyed Median, he refused to fight back against Lord Median because of his pacifism. In an act of ‘an eye for an eye’, Median was in turn killed by the Master of Life, Virtuous, for the act of killing a god. But the damage had been done. Vigilance’s soul, instead of entering the Cycle of Rebirth, in which souls are judged and reincarnated in various forms, was stolen by Drazil. Drazil brainwashed Vigilance and had his memories and his soul altered by Drazil for the World Ruler’s own purposes and goals. Thus ‘Gig’, the God of Destruction, was born. Fifty years after his original death, Gig returned to Haephnes and used three giant beings called the World Eaters and devastated the land into a barren wasteland and swallowed hundreds of thousands of souls. Entire settlements and villages disappeared overnight as Gig’s rampage continued to reduce all that stood in his way into dust. Eventually, entire kingdoms began pledging their fearful loyalty to the World Eaters to save themselves, if only for a little while.
Gig’s army and destructive forces were eventually stopped by Median’s daughter, Layna. Layna had taken up the throne after her father’s death and managed to re-establish a relative peace in the country before Gig’s arrival. It was later revealed that this was in fact, Virtuous (The Master of Life), borrowing Layna’s body after Layna and Virtuous had their own battle shortly after Virtuous killed Median, and Virtuous was defeated. But still having a purpose, and knowing what would become of Prodesto - Layna allowed Virtous to borrow her body. Gathering a small but devoted army, Lady Layna-Virtuous launched a direct attack on Gig, engaging him in single combat. An epic clash ensued and only ended when both sides landed decisive blows on each other at the same time. Lanya perished but Virtuous emerged from her body before the defeated Gig and sealed his soul inside of a black sword, where he would remain for 200 years. The World Eaters, seeing their master defeated, fell dormant, standing over the countryside as constant reminders of the battle.
200 years past that event, the protagonist of Soul Nomad (Revya), along with their childhood friend (Danette), were given weapons to defend their homeland village. Whilst Danette was given twin sickles, Revya was given a long black sword, the ‘Onyx Blade’, and was immediately confronted with the full brunt of Gig’s disgruntled soul. After trying to take over Revya’s body by force fails, Revya and Gig make a pact, a soul fusion, so that Revya could access the powers of Gig in order to stop the reawakened World Eaters and shut down Drazil’s plans for stealing the souls of Prodesto. However, the pact came with a rather ominous catch: the moment Revya overused Gig’s power, Gig would use it as a foothold to claim Revya’s body and begin his rampage anew.
Throughout the events of the game, revealed through a series of dreams, Gig began to remember his past life as the good entity known as Vigilance, who served as the Master of Death for the world of Haephnes, and his purpose to guide souls to the afterlife. Vigilance’s death left souls needing guidance to the afterlife vulnerable and fewer souls were being born in Haephnes, whilst Drazil stole whatever souls he could. Gig made multiple attempts to tempt Revya into accepting more of his power, but was always turned down, and surprisingly, Gig began to develop a sense of begrudging respect for his host. By the time that Revya, Gig, and their band of heroes confronted Drazil at the end of the game in his own world, Gig had regained most, if not all, of his memories of his time as Vigilance, had realized what Drazil had done to him, and had essentially ’become good’, though he still retained his brash personality and behaviors.
During the final battle, Drazil fused with his world’s own Master of Life and Master of Death, becoming a towering monstrosity that proved to be too powerful for Revya to overcome. Left with no other choices, Revya finally allowed Gig to make good of their deal. In a show of his incredible power, Gig utterly destroyed Drazil with a single attack. However, by utilizing all of his power, Gig’s presence completely disappeared from Revya’s body following the battle, implying he had been destroyed for good this time. Saddened by Gig’s apparent death, Revya and Danette returned to Haephnes. Months after the final battle, it was revealed that the World Ruler Haephnes was pleased with Gig’s selfless sacrifice and allowed him to be reborn back into her world, this time with his own separate body. During the process, Gig chose to remain as ‘Gig’ instead of coming back as Vigilance because Vigilance’s pacifism was what caused him to be killed in the first place and Gig also liked his new personality more.
Post-Game Events Begin Here:
After the events of the game, Gig left the world of Haephnes out of a desire to sate his sense of boredom. The DLC events of Disgaea 2, 3 and 4 followed with Gig traveling from Netherworld to Netherworld in search of powerful opponents to test his strength against. He met Overlords Larharl and Mao and did battle against them and their respective parties. Gig later participated in the Netherworld Tournament to continue his search. But nothing seemed to be exciting enough for him.
Shortly before leaving the Netherworld Tournament in search of his next means of entertainment, Gig was stopped by the Hades Party leader Valvatorez. Valvatorez mentioned that he had heard of Gig’s desire for powerful opponents and knew where the Master of Death could go next. Gig was intrigued by this prospect and demanded to know of this place. Valvatorez spoke of a land called “Equestria” where Gig would find many strong beings to do battle against that could very well surpass any opponents Gig had faced before. Gig was delighted to hear of this place and immediately set out to find this new world, unaware of who or what he would find…
||The One Behind It All: World Ruler Drazil
The god responsible for Vigilance’s transformation into Gig. Drazil ruled a quiet, orderly, and structured world named after himself. Unlike the benevolent Haephnes, who believed mortals should be free to experience all the joys and pains of life, Drazil deemed that the only way for mortals to be happy is if the gods controlled their lives entirely. As such, Drazil had his Master of Life, Joules, make all of mortals of his world look, sound, act exactly alike. Drazil also had his Master of Death, Gamma, make sure mortals died at exactly 30 years of age, so that they wouldn’t have to suffer the pains of growing old. Drazil also believed that all the souls of both worlds should belong in his; so he enacted his grand scheme of tricking Lord Median into killing Vigilance so that Joules could steal the souls of those that died. He transformed Vigilance into the destructive and egotistical Gig simply to speed up the process of killing off the entirety of Haephnes’ population. Drazil had Gamma recycle the souls of the departed so that they didn’t return to Haephenes and were just reborn once again into his world. Gig, understandable, utterly despised Drazil for using him in such a way and also hates anyone who follows the same beliefs of forced equality for the supposed “greater good”. ||
@R, Dash
Yeah I remember the start of that little scrap you two had didn’t know about the rest though. Glad to see you made it through that in one piece.
@Celestia’s Servant
But you could have said who might be worth considering or who to avoid.
(Nah, I was just trying to get you to say something about some of those who comment to your posts.)
@Nightwing
That was when I lost my temper and fought with him. I’m not into fashion myself, but Rarity is awesome, and no one does that do her. When a hoof sandwich proved ineffective, I really lost it and gave him a fast-moving shod back hoof to his little monkey balls. That only angered him, and he slammed me into the ground. Trip one to the hospital, and that was when I discovered the “One Hocklet to Rule them All” trilogy. /)3(\
After the fifth Twilight Sparkle interview, Twilight determined that we could safely borrow the Elements from the Tree of Harmony for just long enough to turn him to stone. Gig did not stay petrified, though, and he beat me to a pulp again, If it weren’t for Zecora my wings would have had to be amputated. I still had to go to the hospital again.
Then the princesses called the emergency meeting to learn as much as possible about Gig. The six of us were there, as were primate experts Lyra Heartstrings and Sunset Shimmer. Bon Bon was there though I’m not supposed to say why, and Django was there because he knew about Gig. There we learned about Gig’s former good self as Vigilance, and Twilight decided to use the memory spell to awaken his Vigilance memories.
Pinkie found some hotpods, somehow. Just by being Pinkie Pie, I guess. Anyway, Gig came for them and Twilight cast the memory spell. Sadly, the Vigilance memories didn’t stick.
