The bow does not look very aerodynamic but, looking closer, the design leads me to think that it is a gate which folds down to access the cargo hold. That looks to be a hinge at the bottom, the horizontal bar near the top takes the brunt of the weight, and that curved bar on the side I suppose is some kind of locking mechanism, though it seems impractical to lock a ship from the outside.
