With the ups & downs the series has had, it looks like Sega’s trying to take a break with Sonic, as his only upcoming game now is the newest “Mario & Sonic” Olympic game for Switch, (which actually doesn’t look bad) and due to the movie backlash, and movie redesign pushing the movie’s release date to next year.
 
They probably won’t try to make a new real Sonic game until the 2021 30th anniversary.

I have an unpopular opinion..I think Sonic’s focus on speed is sort of hurting the games. It’s hard to find a good balance between intricate level design but also designing those levels for speed and not just a straight shot you blow through in 2-3 minutes Sonic Forces.

And because speed is so integral people get pissy when they try to do something different, like Sonic Lost World which I’ve never played but it looks fun. I think some of the complaints people had with the gameplay could he easily fixed with a re-release or a sequel.

I have the 3DS version of “Lost World,” and it’s not bad. I think Lost World gets more hate then it deserves. Only thing I disliked about it was tye motion gyro controlled special stages can be disorienting at times, (but honestly they’re kinda fun/creative, I think sometimes motion control games can be fun if done right, unlike most gamers whom write ’em off as “gimmicky”) and having to hold a shoulder R button down to make Sonic run faster, (I prefer auto-running like the old games) but I suppose that gives you better control over his speed.
 
Alot of Sonic fans debate if the series needs more platforming, and less speed, or more speed, and less platforming, but they forget the old games had a balance of both.

TBH, speed was always a reward for playing good in the old games, and the Unleashed formula sorta got rid of that. That’s why I want a new Adventure game. Good level design and platforming, and speed as a reward for skill.
