I’m probably going to be finally getting Breath of the Wild soon. It won’t be my next Switch purchase, but it’ll be soon.
 
I know it’s open-world, but is there a “recommended” order to do things in?

As a matter of fact, I have. The politics in Bioshock (some/many of which I actually agree with, but that’s a topic for Tartarus) may be one of the prevalent point in its story, but the gameplay is still well made, which is a win in my book.

I don’t really get that though. Why is Samus being a woman political? Is Mario being Italian political? Same with the gay thing. I get that a character just bringing up their secuality un-motivated and un-prompted is bad/lazy writing, but it’s the same for all sexuality really if done badly. Being gay or bi doesn’t make it any more political than me than if it were heterosexual.

So you missed that the politics help the story rather than harms it. You should pay attention to the story more than, since that’s an important part of games designed to tell a story, like Bioshock.

I know that it’s theoretically possible to go straight to Hyrule Castle at the beginning of the game, though this is an immensely bad idea.

How many people are calling Rey from Star Wars a Mary Sue due to her character vs. that she’s a female lead? I’ve been given a very strong impression that female characters have become political due to the SJW and Anti-SJW making noise whenever any of them appears in leading roles.

Yoshi’s Crafted World looks fun and cute. I really hope that Giant Baby Bowser isn’t the final boss yet again though.

I’m not saying that politics in a game’s narrative isn’t important, I’m simply saying that gameplay, at least for me, is more important to me than just about anything else, including the game’s narrative and/or politics.
 
Some games can have a great story and shit gameplay, I try to avoid those kind of games because I’d rather not waste money on something that would work better as a movie than a game. Others can have a shit story and excellent gameplay, I might at least rent those from RedBox. Some can have a great story and great gameplay, I’ll snag those up in a heartbeat provided that I have the money. And there’s a few that will have a shit story and shit gameplay, I think you get the idea.

I don’t believe there’s really any proper order to do anything. But the order I’ve seen a lot of Let’s Players hit on their own, and I did too, was:  
Bottom right.  
Upper right.  
Upper left.  
Bottom left.  
Wander around everywhere picking up any remaining shrines/side quests you haven’t finished yet.  
Hyrule Castle.
 
Oh, and DON’T try and find all 900whatever Korok turds. It’s not worth it. No really, there’s no reward except for || a literal golden turd. ||

I’d recommenced staying away from the early Fire Emblem games than, since they fall into the second category from my experience. They aren’t bad, but it’s quite clunky and, at least with FE4, a pain to get though one map (thank God for the ability to save at the start of every turn at least).

That sounds good. And yeah, I’m aware of the Korok Seed thing, but are there at least other rewards for getting certain amounts of those?

No, giving them to the guy to increase inventory space is about all they’re good for.

Oh yeah. It IS really important to gather then when you come across them. They make adventuring life MUCH easier.  
So go ahead and casually explore for em. Just don’t worry about grabbing them all.
