I think that actually kinda hurt both consoles, because the agressive ad campaign, and such kinda convinced kids they could only choose one console, and not enjoy both.
Not to mention, that old Sega commercial that blatantly insulted the original Gameboy, and it’s fans, is very hilarious in hindsight, especially because the Gameboy despite not having color, and such, beat the Sega GameGear. (In fact, the GG wasn’t perfect either as it was expensive, fragile, blurry, and drained batteries quickly.)
Also, the first Sega/Sonic game to appear on a Nintendo system was on GameBoy Advance, making the whole thing even more ironic.
I wonder if they ever brought back the Gameboy brand name it’d upset millennials for it’s so-called “gender-specific/sexist” name.
Though, older gamer girls will probably tell you the Gameboy was the first “boy” they fell in love with.
