The only downside to becoming a Vampire Lord is the weakness to fire and sun, which is easily handled. Otherwise you get a powerful form with powerful magic and benefits.

Vampires are for Magic or Stealth builds.  
Dawnguard is for Warriors.

Khajiit vampires are the best because of those long fangs. <3

They are easily handled if you are only a Dumner or a Breton.

I should get Peryite’s shield, The Black Star and the Dawnbreaker.

I play as a Khajiit and just pack plenty of fire resistance potions.

I’m not actually a vampire on my new character yet. I’m thinking if I should do Dragonborn first (I don’t really like this questline).

Alchemy is a pain to level up, not sure why I bothered. Putting some effort into Pickpocket for the first time has paid (heh) off though.

Haven’t played with the vanilla Skyrim skill tree in a long time.
