No, FO1 hasn’t age any better. You can play them if you want.
 
And FO3 only had that with speech, FO1 and 2 had that with every other skill, like science, repair, doctor/first-aid (which was merged into medicine in 3 onwards), and you only were told that you failed, not if you just rolled badly or if you even met the skill requirements. At least FO3 showed yo the percent chance.

Obsidian wasn’t even a thing at the time, it was Interplay. Obsidian just had a lot of the same people.

Worse. As said FO 2 thankfully has several additions that alleviates the obtuse mechanics from 1. Although a few of them were available in 1, but as Perks.
 
No I will not let that go. 1 knew its gameplay was ass, but instead of fixing them like 2 did it offered the fix in optional in-game abilities that forced you to pick instead of the more essential one. During a time when perks were far more rare than in the 3D games You’re likely to beat 1 or 2 between level 20 and 30. Maybe 40 if you really hold off. Perks in these games are only given every 3 levels compared to every level in 3 or every other level in NV. Do the math.

They had a more mutated look, less resembling the alien xenomorph design. And the reason to be very alien to not fit in the Fallout games are kinda contradictory. The Centaurs are also very alien-looking, resembling a disturbing The-Thing knockoff, and yet, they managed to appear in two games.

I just thought they were called Wendigo, though the name being associated with a winter monster would make since for a desert monster.

In Fallout: New Vegas, the perk rate is set at every 2 levels

Is it weird that I’ve played more Fallout games than Mikey at this point?

Yeah, that’s garbage. Even FO3 knew better than that with their VATS system.

Centaurs are more radiation-fused body like than the smooth and sleek Wendigo. And Centaurs are in all games but 4, I believe.

They dont appear in 4, and probably they suffered the same fate as Wanamingos. Just look at their FO4 design:
 

Also, I think FO2 suffers from tell-don’t-show, since for me, 4 was better at making me care about saving my son than 2 is for my tribe, with 2 needing to remind me of why I’m exploring more than 4 does with dreams.

Speaking of centaurs I’m kinda disappointed they only come in human variants in the 3D games. I liked how the classic games had a few different models for them showing them being a hodgepodge of animals, sometimes with no noticeable human parts.

I mean, tundra is sometimes nicknamed a “frozen desert” and snow sometimes called “white sand”, or something along those lines. A witiko enemy would make some ironic sense in that regard.
 
I think Fallout 76 did include them as an enemy type though.

I’ve seen that image used for the Flesh that Hates SCP. Glad to know that disturbing monstrosity was the design for 4’s Centaurs.

It’s unlikely. One of the previews for 76’s bestiary basically stated “Since we’re going much earlier in the timeline we can show off a bunch of creatures that’ll die out by the time of the other games.”

well they could have just died out elsewhere, remember the average fallout game takes place in a single state, so plenty of room for critters to thrive elsewhere,

Maybe but even then many of them are specifically based off of cryptids from West Virginian folklore. As cool as the Mothmen were they’d be thematically out of place elsewhere.
 
And the entire plot (such as it is) is to go full Dalek on the scorchbeasts, so they’re right out.
