The story is honestly pretty rad.
Okay, so basically, Shao Khan is this badass realm hopping emperor who wants to conquer everything. His strategy involves physically merging his realm (outworld) with the realms he conquers, to make them all one land to reign over. The Elder Gods have a system in place that allows the various realms to have a fighting chance of repelling Khan’s armies. They have a fighting tournament between Khan’s warriors and the defending realm’s champions. If Khan can win 10 times in a row (once per generation), he gets free reign to do whatever he wants to the losing realm. He decides to put his chief Sorceror Shang Tsung in charge of the tournament effort, and Earth’s only hope after losing 9 times is a plucky group made up of Earth’s finest martial artists.
From there things escalate as sequels are want to do. It turns out that one of the Elder Gods is evil and has his own plans to conquer the realms, there’s another sorceror who kinda plays all sides against each other. There’s the previous ruler of Outworld who comes back. There’s so much fighting that the universe physically starts to tear at the seams from all the violence and risks destruction, requiring an Earthrealm god (Raiden) to go back in time and try to avert the sequence of events that led to all this escalation. Only now the Primordial being of time is showing up to put a stop to these shenanagains.
@Dustcan
Again I’m pretty sure Thanatos just wants to feel justified calling the games objectively shit by making up shit despite clearly not playing any of the games because Kratos is the stereotypical toxic white male.
I don’t reacll getting any trident in the first game,
