that doesn’t really mean anything, because DeS, DS1, DS3 and BB also had 2x of the same boss (Maneaters, Four Kings, Shadows of Yharnam, Witches of Hemwick, Demon Prince), or had fights of attrition.
the problem I’ve seen in DS2 is one, what’s their drawback, What’s the Catch? ‘cause I didn’t see one.
In Throne Watcher and Throne Defender, I see 2 bosses with longswords and shields, that basically act the same and can be triggered to do the same things, both at the same time. The only difference is that Throne Defender is slightly less aggressive than Throne Watcher, which isn’t even that noticeable because they can both go on the offensive anytime and Throne Defender just drops his guard all together after a while, which is usually when the fight ends if you took one too many hits.
giving 2 knight enemies a bunch of spells and weapon buffs doesn’t make them bosses, compared to them, Looking Glass Knight, a boss I don’t like, is far more complex and much more of a boss, instead of being another Knight enemy that was given a lightning pine residue on his sword and only happens to wear a shield with a mirror.
as other people put it, that’s what makes them so vanilla, that’s all they do. Compared to them, something like Flexile Sentry, Belfry Gargoyles and Ruin Sentinels are far more intricate bosses.
I think only Pursuer, Lost Sinner, Smelter Demon, Velstadt, Demon of Song and Duke’s Dear Freja are the only good bosses. I would add Flexile Sentry and Ruin Sentinels there too, but they’re more like mini-bosses, which is why they turn into normal enemies later on.
