Don’t beat yourself up too much. The first time I played, I threw in the towel at the Taurus Demon.

But what if I still don’t get past them in 15 hours?  
I also looked up how to beat the bosses on a walkthrough. I’ll never get good at Dark Souls on my own.

It’s a game, don’t worry about it. Hell, I keep trying to figure out the Witcher games and I can’t. I’m 38 and video games have me baffled, how embarrassing is that? The interface, the story, it makes no sense to me. So don’t worry, I’m pretty convinced that some games are just not made for certain kinds of people. Maybe Dark Souls isn’t your bag. Maybe you’re more of a turn-based RPG guy, or a 4X strategy wiz?
 
The best thing to do if you’re getting frustrated is to exit out of the game and take a breather for awhile, rethink your approach. Is it nerves that have you flustered and failing? Maybe you are using a slow weapon when you need quick ones to get in fast strikes. And, in the end, the real question is: Are you having fun? If you’re not, and it’s making you miserable, I say don’t play it. Games are supposed to be a diversion, for fun. They’re not supposed to define who you are as a person.

Aint that the truth, I could never play DS as I can only stand dying so much in a set amount of time, and then I rather just go back a little bit or to my last save so I have everything with me.

But I want to get good at Dark Souls.
 
I guess I’m just bad at video games. Or I’m just dumb.

I want to do it by myself.

I haven’t been playing Super Mario Odyssey as much as I should.

But what if I have to use a walkthrough for all the bosses?

No, you just need to adapt to the game. Helps that you can upgrade your weapon to +5 before the boss with a bit of grinding.

In Dark Souls, it’s OK to use a guide/walk-through for help. Their Wiki page might help.

Every boss has a style, and use need to learn it and adapt to it in order to defeat them. A good weapon and armor helps as well, along with 10 healing swigs.

At this point, it feels less like you’re legitimately enjoying a game and just trying to check something off. But if the will to beat the game is that strong, listen to the others.

I think I’m just dumb.

They forced it on PC players at least, by not making it optional for Skyrim SE and FO4, and they forced a shitload of files onto your HDD in an update.

Gargoyles are the first really hard boss, if you can make it to the fog gate in human form, and have the white soap stone, summon solaire, he can distract them for you, also remember you practice rolling through certain attacks. When you get to the second one, when he breathes fire run around him and lay in some damage, he can’t do anything while in the fire breathing animation.

Isn’t that the point of gaming? To challenge yourself with excitement and fear when the only three things that are moving are your fingers, eyes, and shoulders?
 
Don’t get discouraged; it’s all part of the game.

But I don’t want to have to rely on a walkthrough for all the bosses. I’ve already used one for the first three bosses.

The high difficulty of Dark Souls is precisely why I will never go near them. I can already tell from that alone that it’s not for me.
 
…Well, that, and the whole “Everything’s fucked and hope for things to get better is meaningless because it never will no matter what you do” thing. And the “All the lore is in vague item descriptions” thing.

Knowing how to beat a boss and actually beating it are two different things. And if you feel that strong about it, you can defeat them later, and explore the other areas.

I always found 441’s love of the game to be ironic when you take that into consideration. For as much as he loves the series, it (particularly the first game) is effectively the embodiment of one of his biggest video game related pet peeves: choices that don’t matter.

The way he always described it was, “Sure, you can’t make anything turn out better, but you can at the very least prevent things from getting worse than they already are.”

But that’s the thing: you don’t stop things from getting worse. Even if you sacrifice yourself to rekindle the two flames, all you do is delay things for a while. Eventually, the curse comes back, and somebody else will have to go out adventuring to rekindle the fires. And that cycle continues until someone inevitably fucks up, they don’t reach the flames in time, and they go out. And of course, that’s assuming you do rekindle the flames, and you don’t just let them go out to bring the Age of Fire to an end.
