People seem to trust AAA games so easily. Like, it has a AAA budget, so it must be good, right?

Fuck no. The more money you have, the more careful you have to spend it. AAA games can’t afford to fuck up, so they always go for the same cliché tactics with little to no innovation because it sells. After so many games, you start to notice a trend within companies. Like, nothing has been great or amazing. Just mediocre at best.

Right until the big publishers start buying them all up and forcing them to turn out games without any iota of understanding as to what made them unique and desirable to consumers in the first place.

Not always the case, though. I mean, this year we got Nier Automata. Of course, that Square Enix even agreed to fund it is nothing short of a miracle and more of an exception than anything.

More walking simulators, forever unfinished survival sandboxes and no-effort pixel “art” garbage. Yay.

Call me pessimistic, but even if indie devs gain more popularity, I doubt that the amount of actually worthwhile games will increase.
