I know that was supposed to be awesome, but honestly by that point my reaction was, “Oh. Now we have giant robot dinosaurs.” I think I was mentally exhausted by everything that had gone on, so a moment which should’ve made me go, “Awwwwww yeah!” wasn’t even a blip on the radar.

On a related note, I was rewatching Mr Plinket’s review of the Star Wars prequel and got to wondering: is part of the reason people dislike the Transformers’ movies the fact that the main character is a human? Sam was the main protagonist in the original trilogy, and Wheeljack-wannabe is apparently going to be the same in The Last Knight. In comparison, in the 1986 movie the main protagonist was Hot Rod, an actual Transformer.

That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

For me, both those things (too much focus on humans and the humans being unlikable) were a problem. I really didn’t care about any of the fleshbags because we spent too much time on them, and they were all pretty much contemptible. Sam’s constant stuttering got real old, real fast. His parents should’ve been blown to pieces during the climax of ROTF. Mikaela was so disposable she vanished in DOTM without much fanfare (in comparison, in Captain America: Civil War we actually see how Tony Stark regrets how his relationship with Pepper Potts fell apart off-screen). And I’ve already stated how much I dislike, if not outright hate, that Wheeljack-wannabe.

I think Prime used their humans much better. The only human I had issues with was Miko, but even she didn’t rate the same amount of annoyance the movie humans did. I think it’s because the only reason the trio hung out was because they met via the Autobots, and their interactions generally revolved around them. Even that stuff about Jack’s crush on Sierra wasn’t played up all that much (though I really expected it to), and they wisely dropped it once things started getting serious.

Nope, she never did.
You can count the named humans that knew of Team Prime on two hands, from the fact that in the episode “Grill” we had some members of the military that saw Optimus when they questioned Fowler, and only the general, Bryce, got named, same guy Fowler was always on the phone with.
The first five where Fowler, Jack, Jane, Raf, and Miko.

Yeah, Sierra kind of got dropped once it became clear things were getting majorly serious. It’s sort of a shame because they could’ve gotten some mileage out of a potential relationship getting stifled by Jack’s involvement with the Autobots (the way in Batman Beyond Terry’s relationship with his girlfriend Dana got strained by his superhero work).

I mean, Josh Keaton probably has experience with that sort of thing from his work on Spectacular Spider-Man, plus we saw a bit of that from the time Arcee showed up to pick Jack up and Sierra was suspicious of Jack claiming ‘Sadie’ was his mom.

On the other hand, this was a good call in the sense that Jack was probably well aware of how dangerous things were getting and there just wasn’t time for anything like romance. Between Unicron, then Darkmount showing up and getting blown up, then the final clash on the Nemesis… a lot of things happened, yeah?

Compared to Sam, Jack was way more mature, I thought. Sam kept blabbering or worrying about his relationship with Mikela, while Jack got more concerned about the fact that he’s involved with a battle for the fate of the world. I appreciate that sense of responsibility.

Are we counting that racing punk Smokescreen threatened?

|| the witwickys are descendants of merlin.

THAT merlin.

they need a witwicky to use merlin’s staff (a cybertronian device) and cade’s love interest is from a separate branch of the witwicky family which she is described as the LAST witwicky descendant. ||

sucks that the movie is too close to this year’s toycon so everyone’s just going to pirate it and keep the ticket money for the merch (sucks to watch a movie alone. it’s the after viewing party that makes the experience better).

Just had a thought about Transformers in SRW

I imagine the Nadesico and Tobikage casts wouldn’t appreciate mars getting blown up (Headmasters plot)

I know I have no intention of watching TLK, but I do plan on picking up Cogman, Nitro Zeus and Megatron. They look interesting.

And please, I have to know… did any of the Decepticons actually matter this time, or were they still disposable “hi then die” characters? Especially Barricade.

@trashboat

That’d probably put a huge damper on things, that’s for sure. On the other hand, having the Nadesico and Tobikage casts, plus the knowledge that Mars is actually inhabited, would make everyone fight to stop Scorponok’s plan all the harder.

Maybe he can settle for blowing up Phobos.

Anyway. Can you guys think of any more examples of how Transformers plot would effect other shows in SRW (Or vice versa)
