They did make an Ultraman, but it was co-produced with an Australian company and filmed there, Tsuburaya still had a hand in it.  
That was Ultraman: Towards the Future AKA Ultraman Great.  
And the funny thing is it aired in the US before it did in Japan(by about three years), but never aired in Australia.

oh i know. referencing how tsuburaya learned how cheap the sets would be and sent some guys to help.
 
basically they care about the brand’s rep more than the cost.
 
 
nothing they can do about the series’ character designs but the ultra and the kaijus looked great.

all toei did was declare it as “non official sequel” and let it run it’s course. no help or anything sent to the locals producing it.

Watching Hurricanger now (subs by Shushuutto Scrubs, who scrubbed the HK subs). Dear LORD, people were not kidding when they said that the core 3 Hurricanger actors were terrible in their original series. Up until this point I had only seen them in later stuff where they were much better, so this is just… YIKES.
 
Kouta/Hurricane Yellow is probably the worst of them though. His speech is practically slurred half the time.

4 episodes left before I’m caught up on Kyuranger.

What’s this I’m hearing about Lucky having been time-displaced or something?

Honestly, the only episode where I’d say that Lucky “stole the spotlight” from one of the other Kyurangers would be episode 6, which was supposed to be Hammy’s episode.

I’m 11 episodes into Hurricanger, and so far it’s just “okay”. I’ve been told it gets better though.

Never mind, I’m not dropping Hurricanger after all. But now I’ve got to redownload it.

Gonna be watching Metalder soon, as my first Metal Heroes series.

Did you know that Dynaman was the first Sentai to use spandex for the suits? The Sentai series that came before it (Goranger, JAKQ, Battle Fever J, Denziman, Sun Vulcan, and Goggle V) used cotton for the suits instead.

Seriously, though, Metal Heroes villains have the most ridiculously awesome names EVER. You’ve got names like Don Horror and Hunter Killer (Gavan), Demon King Psycho (Sharivan), Satan Goth and Mad Gallant (Juspion), and God Neros (Metalder), among others.

And Over-time got Build ep2 out super fast as well.

I get that this is supposed to be a very serious dramatic episode for Ryuga.
