So apparently a gene in the human genome was found to be responsible for a lot of birth defects; 22q11.2
 
Basically what they found was that area was so vital to your body that even if one gene in that region is wrong it can cause a shitload of diseases. They might in the future do dna tests on not yet born babies for that, cause if that area is screwed up you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that child is going to have a major life threatening birth defect.
