Thoughts on “Cancel Culture”?

I generally view “Cancel Culture” with a dismissive disregard because nine times out of ten the person being “cancelled” isn’t actually cancelled because their popularity never actually wanes in any significant way.

I’ve been cancelled like 50 times since my career began, I still only see growth and increases in revenue. Hell Thomas Sanders was “cancelled” by aphobic assholes and… well take a look at Socialblade.

I’ve only seen Cancelling actually work once, and that was ProJared. And let’s be honest, about 90% of why that worked came down to “ProJared stopped posting videos and this was the only thing about him top talk about.” If he had still been uploading consistently, people would have stopped caring after two weeks.

I think in general people overestimate the power of online mobs. They can be a headache to deal with, but unless you’re already a complete jackass there’s very little damage they can do to your livelihood because 80% of an individual’s audience just doesn’t give a flying fuck. There are a lot of people who watch Youtube videos and don’t interact with a creator beyond that. So any discourse about them as a person just goes right past them.

Hell if you make liberal use of the block button like I do, discourse about you being cancelled likely won’t even reach your ears until long after the fact. I know I have a small sample, but in my experience Cancel Culture can be completely disregarded by those being cancelled.

I feel like making this post. I think a majority of us are going for the low hanging fruit of jerry’s antics. What makes jerry a cow is his sperging, perversions and extremism. Being anorexic is not lolcow behaviour. I would prefer a course of action of us to wait until he says something really stupid/wrong/autistic/horrifying, stuff your average joe would find repulsive and pathetic.

Me actively expressing due diligence and putting my money where my mouth is by age-restricting a stream is their evidence that I… don’t… do those things? Are these people okay? I know 20% of the air they inhale is glue, but this is a whole new level of sad.

Honestly I’d be surprised if that gained any traction. E4B spent the better part of two years arguing against me on the basis that child pornography is a problem and now they want to pretend that me supposedly flashing a stream that was restricted to adults only is some kind of “gotcha”?

The rampant hypocrisy on display is hilarious.

People actively preying on minors: Not a problem
Media aimed at children depiction children in an extremely sexualized way: Not a problem
