Like I’ve said before, “Woke Brands” is currently the fad for performative white liberals and it seems Ellis has jumped on that fad with admirable, grinding gusto. “Woke Brands” has always been a dipshit take, because it operates under the assumption that people are stupid and don’t know what cynical, corporate marketing is.

Remember what I said about “Rainbow Capitalism”? The conversation usually goes like this.

“Target is tricking us into thinking they’re our friends!”

“Woke Brands” works the same way. The vast, vast VAST majority of people are aware that corporations are scummy. We just enjoy the crushing reality that progressive ideas are so dominant that they’re what corporations are pandering towards. It’s an indicator that massive, multinational corporations are aware who is going to come out the victor and wants to still be selling stuff to them.

There’s no subterfuge on display. We know all the bullshit these companies do, we’re not under the impression that they aren’t scummy and cynical.

Of course BreadTube has always had a dismissive attitude toward the masses. It’s always operated under the impression that “The Working Class” are too dumb to realize that all their beliefs are faulty because they’ve been brainwashed by The Capitalism Company and just need to be uplifted into civilization.

You can’t fault the savages for being violent, they don’t know any better.

Of course, this attitude has always been based less in reality than it is in ideology. Far-right coal miners know exactly what they’re doing and aren’t helpless victims of brainwashing because the rest of the working class doesn’t have this problem. It’s only a tiny, deliberate minority of it.

So BreadTube operates under the impression that everyone is too dumb to realize they’re being propagandized to, and just by sheer coincidence that propaganda is “Representation is how companies make you their slaves” which absolutely does not have anything else motivating it.

The Youtube community that just so happens to be comprised almost entirely of straight white people are definitely being honest when they tell you that black Ariel is actually corporate propaganda. Totally. No biases here. /s

So, I need advice. I wanna make a character kinda like Zuko, but I’m worried they’ll turn out more like Starlight. They’ll be introduced as an evil minion, but you’ll learn later that they’re being threatend by someone who’s holding they’re child and girlfriend hostage. They switch sides after the heros help them rescue their family. But that’s only revealed in the second half, so I’m kinda worried.
