If people don’t oppose it or challenge it and the courts (for whatever reason) decide that those actions are allowable… it might. The decision to charge him like that is in direct violation of the first amendment, and anyone who cares about the ability of the press to report on almost anything of actual significance should be concerned and fighting it. It’s absolutely a frightening move by an increasingly deranged, authoritarian leaning administration and needs to be opposed, regardless of what your opinion on Assange may be.
But bear in mind, there have been challenges like this before that did not end up succeeding, so Trump getting his way on this is not a guarantee by any means.
