So my country’s government plans on removing as many illegal immigrants as they can within a month or so. They already detained about 10,000 of them and plans to continue. Employers who have knowingly taken in illegal immigrants are also at risk of being arrested.

In France, the current scandal is about one of Macron’s security aides (and former bodyguard) who’s been shown beating up protesters during a demonstration held on the First of May (where he was supposed to be present besides the police as a mere observer) in a video that surfaced recently (turns out Antifa’s black blocks weren’t the only ones looking for a fight that day).  
He and four other cops suspected of trying to cover it up got arrested and charged this weekend. Ministry of Interior Gérard Collomb has also been caught in the crossfire of what’s already being considered a State matter and is being auditioned by the National Assembly right now.

 
I mean, I support what my government is doing but it’s just surprising how it’s not that big of a deal as compared to any other country doing the same.

Most Malaysians love the guy. He won by a landslide in the election recently, even though he’s over 90 years old. He was a former PM and did numerous advancements for the country.
 
As for the economy thing… Not so much, really. Our lowest paying jobs are held by locals. So we’re not dependant on immigrants. The cheapest job for immigrants here that I know of are either waitresses or maids, most of which from nearby countries such as Indonesia or the Philippines.
