Depends then, on how strong a magic shield is. Kinetic bombardment for instance is designed to essentially be a targetable man made asteroid. The magic shields in say, My Little Pony were barely strong enough to stop changelings breaking through it. And if I remember correctly, it did actually break.

But what if the dragons are re ones who are really in charge. It’s the illuminuttys.

And we just fired a stream of dragon fire and AIM-9 Sidewinders right into 1996.

It could just be a shield designed to designate metallic/non-organic objects. Again, magic can be OP depending on the limitations in the world. We also need to ask why is the military attacking the dragon if it has no reason to expect an attack? Is the military attacking a dragon out of fear and not even going to try to contact it? What if other dragons hear about it and become aggressive? How would the US military take on hundreds or even thousands of dragons?

Yes. DARPA supposedly developed it to fight invasive or disease carrying species. Likely a lie since it was DoD funded and kept secret from the public. In reality, it could target specific groups of humans based purely on DNA. Prompting emergency meetings by the UN.

I have a feeling that dragons would find a way to avoid it, or just try to kill us off since we’re a danger to their race. It would likely end up with both sides willing each other in that case.
