Robots and monsters done via so-called “practical” effects feel more real to me, because they are real. The human eye is able to discern the difference between real and CG without almost any mistakes. The more effort the effects team puts into its models, the better obviously the end result, but them being physical objects that exist in the real world make the movie automatically more believable.

What if it were something like Robot Jox or one of the Godzilla movies, where all the robot and monster effects are technically done with real physical objects like costumes and models (albeit still looking fake to an extent)?

I’d say MH is more like Zelda. Still an action RPG, but you have to exploit weak points, break sections of the boss, and use a variety of items during the fight to win.
