I think an interesting post-Diamond story would be for a rogue Gem or some other lifeform to arrive on Earth and start attacking Steven. Steven, used to this by now, starts by explaining that he’s not Pink Diamond or Rose and that he has no involvement with what they did…and then said attacker clarifies that they know. They’re not after Rose or Pink Diamond, and in fact do not care about them at all, but that they’re after Steven. Maybe his peacekeeping lead to a Gem-type being rendered useless, maybe another species seeking revenge on the Diamonds is pissed that he’s made peace with them, but they make VERY clear that Steven, and Steven alone, is the target. Steven tries to find a way to pass the buck to Pink Diamond somehow, some way, only to realize that he’s doing EXACTLY what Pink did. He’s spent so long pinning his issues on his mother that he no longer knows how to truly take responsibility for HIMSELF. Steven makes peace with the assailant, as Steven does, and then finally, FINALLY makes true peace with Pink/Rose, realizing that for all the horrible things she did…she truly did love him.
