Basically in the Quranic Genesis, God coulda prevented everything from going wrong but he didn’t. Why? Because he God.

I mean… he is.

I’m not religious one bit. Not even superstitious. I have certain morals that I keep for no particular reason. Even though it really doesn’t matter what I do since we all die anyways. My overall goal is to stay sane for as long as possible. And to leave this place when I’m ready to go.
 
So yeah, religion confuses me, and I don’t know entirely why someone would believe in it.

To any Christians out there, if your first response to people criticizing mainstream Christianity’s stranglehold on society, and how it has allowed politicians to get away with making bigoted decisions in its name, is “Not all Christians are like that!” then you’re part of the problem.
 
Same goes for people from any other religious group.

But whn there’s a rebellion against state-sanctioned oppression its called terrorism–and when it IS terrorism, scholars and authorities all over the world denounce it and call it out.
 
What if ppl are frustrated but they legally cant do jack shit bcause they’re not given any legal means to state their case, nor be heard? What if they been living in tyranny and dicatorship? Even worse, what if those dictators wasn’t chosen nor approved by the people?! Fucker just suddenly came into their life saying “I’m yer master now.” “Who decides that?!” “Oh, my friend with the BFG here says so.”

Dont gib a fook if the group is secular or godless. Dont need a god nor a miracle to form a religion. Just need a doctrine, a set of beliefs, and a loyal mouthpiece.
 
I’m not letting atheists and agnostics get away scot-free with it as well. You subscribe to a routine and a set of beliefs that you adhere to. You is religious, dont matter if you godless.

When I say something criticizing how religious people are allowed to get away with bigotry in the name of religion and people say, “Not all people of that religion are like that!” it kind of feels like they’re missing the point? Like, they’re so concerned with proving that they’re not one of the radical types, that they miss the overall point that the problem is that the radical types are allowed to keep getting away with it, that the government turns a blind eye because they justify it in the name of religion (e.g. the US government toward homophobic Christians, or Islamic theological dictatorships with all the terrible stuff that happens there). Like, obviously I know that not all religious people are like that—that would be a stupid thing to say—but whether they are or aren’t like that is distracting from the overall point.
 
And yes, I’m willing to apply that to all religions. Including atheists. It’s debatable whether or not atheists count as a religion, but as soon as atheists start trying to force people to get abortions or whatever in the name of atheism, I’d be more than willing to call them out for it.
 
I guess we’re agreeing about some of the details of each of our points, but disagreeing about the main point.

I never assume anything. I’m sure if you go far enough you’ll see the most absurd things you can fringe to imagine.
 
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a religion inspired by an alien fiction novel, or we’re a simulation running on a low end computer.
 
We could be the spontaneous instance of a brain that thinks it had a past.
 
I’ve considered the small possibility of certain religious figures existing to some capacity.
 
Angels could come from the horizon with no scientific explanation because science only assumes everything can be measured and tested. Science also only assumes we share the same reality.

Heaven will only be another broken dream.

It’s hard to stay awake, I don’t have much time left.

So, I was going to post about this in the vent thread, but I figured that this is as good a place as any. If the mods want me to move it, I can.
 
On Monday, a preacher dude (who I will henceforth refer to as “Angry Bible Man”) came to our college campus. He stood in front of Carrier Library and started yelling about how God is going to send you to hell, harassing girls passing by, and shouting homophobic nonsense. Thankfully, he was drowned out by the crowds of people clowning on him, including one girl on kazoo, a dude dressed as Jesus telling him off, and me, who started singing “Never Gonna Give You Up” and incited the crowd to rickroll him.
 
Today, he came back and brought a megaphone to shout his bile. Fewer people were there to shout him down, but it scared me that he might be getting some support. He also started mocking people with self-harm issues. And it seems like he might be back tomorrow.
 
You see this BS? People like this are why I have absolutely no respect for religion.

I mean… he preaches the word of Christ, so he is a Christian. You can certainly make the case for him not being a good Christian, which I (as an atheist) would agree with, but he is def a Christian.
