The genesis of the left’s association with evil comes from the Book of Matthew. It writes that on the last Day of Judgment:

“He shall separate all nations one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats; and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left…then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, come, ye blessed of my father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world…then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”

The result was a belief in the people, some of which continues to these day. In the Middle Ages it found its greatest extremes when left-handed women were burned as witches.

With all due respect. This is bullshit. I am also in favor of acknowledging one’s own sins and living with them. That you learn from your mistakes. But which god creates an entire race of intelligent apes and then let them spread all over the world, only to send his son thousands of years later, who is executed immediately without much effect. Except that millions of people were slaughtered in the name of the Christian faith later.

I’m serious. Either God has given us too little love and compassion along the way, then his creation would be damn flawed, or there is no God and our actions are simply self-determined. I tend towards the latter. If anything, I prefer the old gods. At least they stood by their mistakes. All Abrahamic religions are just simply hypocritical.

Evil in the world doesn’t come from human nature but rather the nature of how property is structured in society
Before agriculture, we weren’t that violent
I mean, we still did kill each other, but humans also cooperate and feel sympathy for one another much better

Before agriculture, we weren’t that violent.

That would have to be discussed. First, humanity was less numerous at that time, so the clash of larger groups was rarer, so no clash of interests, resources were more numerous, and so on. But mass graves from early times also show that violence has always been part of human nature. We’re nothing but apes. Even chimpanzees go to war. And they eat their dead.

Why am I mentioning this? Because people in extreme situations always tend to take extreme measures. It’s just a survival instinct. That is why the achievements of civilization and philosophy are so important. They show that humanity can evolve if it is given enough time to do so. You just have to learn to accept good and evil equally. I don’t mean to tolerate it. But not to try to cling to some kind of creator who takes the blame off you. After all, (the Abrahamic) God started out as a scapegoat.

Human beings are, at its core, violent. We can also be called selfish, greedy and crazed.

But we have the ability of choice. The power to go against or for our own humanity. We can decide to do bad things, or do good things. That in itself is just amazing. We are not bound by our nature.

We are, dare I say it, evil. But the fact that we can choose to be good… Isn’t that just wonderful?

No, humanity isn’t selfish, the very basic building block of early societies was cooperation between its members
The hunter gatherer tribes were egalitarian

The problem is thinking of humanity as an individual but as a famous man once said, “we live in a society”

That’s because early civilization was dependent on cooperation. Those who didn’t cooperate were cast out, and later on died. It was all for the sake of survival. People would commit cannibalism if it became a necessity.

Nowadays, that’s not entirely the case and thus, we get to explore the more fundamental aspects of humanity and their core values, their biology and how evolution has both provided advantages and disadvantages.

Also,
as a famous man once said, “we live in a society”

Social ostracism is still alive and well, and has the same negative mental and health ramifications now as it did back in our hunter/gatherer days.

Perks of working with one of the foremost experts in the field of exclusion and ostracism.

Part of the enjoyment of watching TV is how random it can be, so long if you don’t look at the schedule.

Eh, convenience isn’t always a good thing, because someone like me always has a hard time deciding things.

I bet if I had only Netflix/Hulu/etc. during my childhood and not a TV channel like Fox Movies or CN, I’d probably be watching way less shows. Choosing is hard, so I let the network choose for me. If I don’t like it, I change channels and try again.

Not really, altruism is a core part of humanity

Even Stirner, the famed egoist who was all “nice spooks nerd it’s all about the individual and self interest” had to concede with the union of egoists as, humans typically don’t like loneliness
Even the loneliest person desires some form of human connectivity

God works in mysterious ways, amirite?

Actually, I’m reminded of a line from “Dear God” by XTC:

Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
