I can see that being canon. There’s more than enough of them that are special and given to you by NPCs which could imply that they were bred that way (like the Cosplay Pikachu in ORAS, the Surfing Pikachu in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and the starter in Let’s Go Pikachu).
 
Pikachu Valley guy has probably hundreds of them in that valley and trailer of his. He’s probably that guy.

It was different time when characters like Blue and Silver were considered acceptable. Society apparently wants to encourage more positivity lately.

But the Pokémon lore is literally worse (in a good way). I mean, we have ghosts of dead children and kidnapping.

And that’s probably it. The rival is more or less the same age as the player character. I wouldn’t be surprised if they want to avoid having jerk rivals because they feel it might be a bit too close to bullying. And considering how views on bullying are changing and people are taking it more seriously, they just might want to avoid going down that line all together.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that did happen. But I’d rather that happen than what they did in the Sinnoh and Unova leagues.

Honestly when you think about it, we beat our rivals each and every time. Technically, we’re the bullies and not them. We bully them because they annoy us and get in our way.

Only thing I never got about the jerkass rivals, is how they still think they’re better than you no matter how many times you kick their ass.

Blue adapted and improved (even dumping his Ratacate in the PC when he realized that training it would be a waste), through Silver has no excuse.

I want a puesdo legendary that’s based off trash, but is actually rusted-corroded metal of cars and trucks that took the form of a rusted-mechanical land squid

As I said I don’t take it seriously I know that it was boxed because it’s meant to represent the Blue’s whole spiel about gathering the most powerful Pokémon it’s just that he happened to drop Ratacate around a cemetery.
