I’ll bet Brock was trying to get very close with Ivy, but got rejected. Or perhaps that his breeding services were no longer required at her place.
 
…In hindsight, the latter sounds like the same reason, if taken out of context.

I remember one fanfic saying that it turned out that Professor Ivy was already married, and Brock walked in on them together.

I’ve heard lots of rumors, including Ivy being a team rocket agent.
