Holy shit. I know Sakurai is dedicated but damn, he should totally take some breaks. Nobody will mind if the game is slightly delayed for the sake of his health.

Paper Mario is a very popular choice by Japanese SSB fans, I hear.
Though, if they do include him, hopefully he has a more unique moveset then Mario & Dr. Mario.

Just saw a commercial with a lineup of Nintendo Switch games including Smash Bros. Ultimate. I literally pointed at the TV screen saying, “This year……..you.”.

There’s enough material in just the first Paper Mario game alone for Paper Mario to be a unique fighter from the other two Marios. Add in The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario, and you have a crap-ton of potential for an incredibly awesome fighter.

Unfortunately, it appears it’ll all be the newer two, heck, they’ll probably deny the first three even existed.

We’ll have to wait and see, though I looked up the Smash Wiki to see how the previous games handled Paper Mario representation…
-Melee had a single Paper Mario trophy, and the appearance and description are based on the first Paper Mario game on N64.
-Brawl had several trophies for the paper versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, as well as “Wedding Bowser” and “Wedding Peach”. All of them are based on Super Paper Mario.
-Smash 4-3DS had several trophies of the same characters, as well as Kersti, Paper Wiggler, Paper Gooper Blooper, and Paper Bowser’s second form. All of them are based on Sticker Star. The game also had a Paper Mario stage with references to the first game, The Thousand-Year Door, and Sticker Star, and said stage will be returning in Ultimate.
The Paper Mario stages gives me hope they’ll acknowledge the first three games, though the Smash games generally seem to just reference the latest game, which means there’ll definitely be references to Color Splash.

I have to admit, it was kinda satisfying to see Chrom become playable (Echo Fighter or not) after he was basically the punching bag of Smash 4, and for a really crappy reason too. Really hope that if they bring back Palutena Guidences, the one with Chrom is just him turning the tables on Viridi.
