Samurai were actually mounted archers by default. When the enemy gets close, he uses a polearm. When he loses that, that’s the time he uses his sword.

Other facts:
Japanese swords were typically only folded about eight times.
Women can become samurai.

Ancient Greeks have Polybolos as a repeating siege crossbow weapon.

It’s a little different from the Chinese system of repeating crossbows as the Greek model requires one to twist the crank back and forth in order to sustain fire. The Chinese system just requires the shooter to pull the hand crank. But it’s weak compared to conventional crossbows.

These guys oftenly served as skirmish and scout troops, and saw substantial use in World War I, especially in the western front. After the war, returning tirailleurs formed a certain nuclei for african (and also Indochinese) independentist movements.
Modern-day France still has ceremonial tirailleurs, but these are recruited from France proper.

You mean the one where they were supposed to be fighting Muslims but instead sacked Constantinople and took lands for themselves?

Istanbul would never have become a thing and we probably would be seeing a “Byzantine Republic” today.

Thanks a lot greedy Venetians.

Yep that one.

If I got my details right, Pope wanted to take Jerusalem. But he wanted to do it through Egypt so as to sneak around the Islamic militaries. However only Venice had the boats capable of making the journey, and they would only lend them out if they got Constantinople. So the generals straight up lied to the their armies and said that the Byzantines were Arabs and sacked the Holy City of Orthodox Christianity. This caused the Pope to excommunicate the Crusaders, broke up the Byzantine empire, and caused basically split the Christian beliefs into east and west. Ironically this let Islam spread further.

Basically.
Venetians controlled Constantinople’s trades and dealings for a few hundred more years before the Ottoman Turks finally conquered the city and destroyed the Byzantine Empire in 1453AD. End of the Romans.
Though, Russia was supposed to carry the torch as the successor of Byzantine Empire, 3rd Rome and protector of the Orthodox Christian faith.
