Yeah, I’ve heard about that. Especially when you realize that Haltmann never figured out that the robot girl Susie was his daughter, whom he thought was dead. Or worse, maybe he DID figure it out and thus realized that reactivating Star Dream was meaningless.
 
I may also try to go for RtDL’s True Arena again at some point fairly soon. Spark seems to be the best ability to use for that one.

Canvas Curse and Mass Attack are still the worst games in the series to me. It’s not simply because they have different gameplay styles, it’s that those different gameplay styles aren’t fun. Especially Mass Attack. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make every freaking level in that game 20-30 minutes long and not have a single checkpoint in any of them, so that if you die, you have to do the whole damn thing all over again?

Whoa! There’s something I didn’t know about Mass Attack…

I’ve also been playing Nightmare in Dream Land on the Wii U Virtual Console lately. Still pretty fun, but man, the series sure has come a long way since that game and the original NES Kirby’s Adventure.
 
I think Nightmare In Dream Land is the superior version except in one case: why did they remove the rotating building sections from Butter Building and just reduce it to “fog clears away and door appears automatically and you pretty much don’t do anything”? The rotating building stuff pushed the NES to its limits, and the GBA was overall more powerful, as evidenced by everything else in the game, but they couldn’t pull that off?

I definitely agree with the building sections. Although, I love how they made the Quick Draw the one seen in Kirby Superstar.

Interestingly, the NiDL Quick Draw is actually still called “Samurai Kirby” in the Japanese version, like the Super Star sub-game, but the translators messed it up and used the old name even though it no longer makes as much sense (you could say it refers to quickly drawing your sword, but “Quick Draw” usually refers to Western-style quick-draw shoots, like the original KA sub-game).

Also, even though I have Kirby’s Dream Collection on the Wii, I ended up getting Dream Land 3 and 64 from the Wii U Virtual Console, for discounted prices too since I had previously downloaded them from the Wii Shop Channel.
 
Why? 2 words: restore points. I will probably also download Dream Land 2 from the 3DS Virtual Console at some point for this same purpose. …Though I’m gonna keep Dream Collection anyway. XD

I remember getting Crystal Shards on my old Wii system. I felt like I was missing out, since I didn’t exactly own a N64 as a child. Played games for it, though.
 
Remember that 3D Kirby special with the 4kids voice cast? The one with Kabuki Kirby?

Yeah, I never bothered to watch that and I have no desire to.
 
And it’s funny; I played Crystal Shards as a kid on the N64, but I could never get past Rock Star originally because the Scarfies f**ing terrified me. They’re still kind of scary, but I can handle it more easily now. I never beat it until I played it on the Wii many years later. And playing Dream Land 3 was my first ever experience with it, since I never had an SNES. I actually managed to beat both Zero and 02 in those games when I played them on the Wii, but I think I want to have a slightly easier time with them this time around. Especially Dream Land 3.
 
Now, as for Dream Land 2, that one is infamous for its Rainbow Drops being really difficult to collect. Especially the one in Iceberg. Dear GOD, the Rainbow Drop of Iceberg…

Just beat Nightmare in Dream Land 100%. Really goes to show just how much more complex and how much longer the games have gotten over the years.
 
Also, the translation team of the game goofed up. They referred to Nightmare as “the Nightmares”, in plural, even though Nightmare is a singular entity. What’s really strange is that the original Kirby’s Adventure didn’t make this mistake.

Apparently Shinichi Shimomura, the director of the Dark Matter Trilogy (Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3, and 64), died shortly after 64 came out (though he was still involved in Nightmare in Dream Land’s production before he died). …But here’s the strange thing. There are absolutely no sources that directly confirm this. It’s all just speculation, but if it is true, then apparently the reason characters from his games rarely show up anymore is because HAL was not using them out of respect for him or something.

Wouldn’t it not be proper to keep showing them, if that really was the case, though? Even toss in a complimentary ‘In memory of Shinichi Shimomura’?

I don’t think they needed to. Since Kirby’s Nightmare in Dreamland is a remake of Kirby’s Adventure.

He was apparently very enigmatic, people that worked with him on the games knowing the most but saying nothing.  
Some of the rumors say he disappeared but I think the reason there might not be any real confirmation of it is that the name is actually a pseudonym.

You know, I really wish they would bring the Yo-Yo ability back. I loved that ability in Super Star/Super Star Ultra.

What they should have brought back, in my opinion, was the enhanced Magic ability from Squeak Squad. I loved that the clown could double as a hammer.

I think you might have replied to the wrong comment of mine there (you replied to my comment about Shimomura, when you seem to be replying to my comment about the “Nightmares” thing).

But man, Kirby’s Adventure/Nightmare in Dream Land sure does have a lot of BS enemy placement. There are frequently moments where enemies will literally suddenly fly in from off-screen and land right on top of you. A lot of the older Kirby games had that kind of thing, actually. I think Dream Land 3 may be even worse about it, though.

There’s Dreamland that also has it. Especially with Hard Mode with Dreamland.

Yeah, that can be really annoying. Not to mention, in the original Kirby’s Dream Land, Gordos did 3 points of damage to Kirby, which was half his maximum health. And then in Extra Mode the bosses constantly used them in their attacks…

Also, I’m not gonna be doing Extra Mode or Meta Knightmare for Nightmare in Dream Land. …It’s kind of lame that you can’t unlock the Sound Test in NiDL unless you beat Meta Knightmare…

Have you noticed that the past few traditional platformer Kirby games – Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot – have a very similar formula to each other? Then again, I think they all use the same game engine (though TD and PR’s engines are obviously modified from RtDL’s engine).

But Meta Knightmare is fun on both Nightmare in Dreamland and Planet Robobot!

But in the Nightmare in Dream Land version, you can’t save. …Then again, I am playing it on the Wii U, so I have restore points…
 
Still, I’d have to do Extra Mode first, and the game is already hard as it is with 6 hit points. There’s no way I can do it with just 3 as Kirby or Meta Knight.
