My personal philosophy is that if you have to tack ‘another’ the question of ‘remake?’ the answer is no.

Jotaro’s English VA also voiced McCree from Overwatch.
 
They knew exactly what they were doing.

 
Cop Craft ep 3. It sure was convenient of the show to establish that the lead girl is 18.
 
For real though, this took any interesting turn. The terrorists’ reasoning feels appropriate for, well, a terrorist organization. Also, there are definitely real-life analogs here but I’m not confident enough to talk about them.
 
It’s curious that this anime avoids showing more gruesome scenes. It’s not like it doesn’t do them altogther, they just do them off-screen. I can’t tell if this is a purposeful choice in storytelling, some kind of production issue, or some form of censorship.
 
 

 
Star Twinkle ep 24. Making a talking snowman eat shaved ice feels kinda wrong.
 
Anyway, this was a nice ep about how being good at a thing doesn’t mean much if you don’t enjoy doing it. Good use of lighting to drive home this week’s moral.

Started watching The Familiar of Zero.  
It’s fun so far. About 9 episodes in.  
Seems fairly standard harem Isekai setup. Boy summoned to magic land accidentally. Is made magic girl’s Familiar. Other girls have the hots for him because he acts differently than everyone~
 
But, it’s done in a nice enough way that I’m enjoying it. Though Louise’s stereotypical Tsundereness and abuse is rather annoying. As well as Saito’s stupidity.  
But, it’s managing to keep my attention. So here’s to enjoying 4 seasons~
 
Additional: Holy crap Louise’s English VA also voiced Homura from Madoka Magica! DAMN she sounds different. Though, really, it makes a big difference when one role is nothing but angry yelling and the other is tortured and broken stoicness~

It did the isekai thing about a decade before it became mainstream.

Louise is my favorite character in Familiar of Zero because the show actually gives a reason why she is the way she is. Saito is infatuated with big boobs and this annoys Louise because she feels she doesn’t have big boobs she isn’t perfect. She spent most of her life being picked, so she desperately craves affection. So when Saito starts lusting over others, it makes her feel inferior. Again, because everybody around her picked on her growing up.

The reverse is also true. Saito clearly prefers Louise above all his romantic options…but she is violently abusive when she feels inadequate. So of course Saito starts looking at his other, less painful and more receptive options more. Which, of course, makes Louise jealous and causes her to lash out.
 
It creates a vicious cycle between the two that forms the basis of their dysfunction. It kinda disappoints me when people (understandably, mind) brushes them off as one dimensional when despite (or perhaps because of) their portrayal being a much more extreme exaggerated example of a ‘relationship with a tsundere’, the story actually goes to lengths to explain why they both are who they are (especially in the novels).

Yeah, I get where the insecurity comes from. Still annoying though when she beats him with a riding crop and says he’s just a peasant familiar. [Basically slave.] Least she’s doing that less now.
 
And I cannot express how tired I am of the breast size thing in anime.  
Nigh on every anime or show I see has a character at some point either being jealous of larger breasts or mocked for having small ones, or the main character is obsessed with them being large.
 
It just happens SO OFTEN that seeing it pop up somewhere just completely kills my enjoyment till it passes.  
Hell it’s not just ecchi comedy anime that does it. Like I said, it’s freaking everywhere. at some point somewhere no matter how serious the damn show is supposed to be the damn boob thing comes in out of nowhere gah.smiofu hco34iejgkoerhg q34iohgfo934y56hym356 uityno hbkihj

I’m on season 4 of Familiar of Zero, and it’s really interesting. Seasons 1 and 2 naturally progress the relationship between Louise and Saito. However, in season 3 Louise becomes meaner. And then in season 4, the writing gets back on track and Louise becomes nicer. Season 3 is a very weird season. It’s good, but weaker than seasons 1, 2, and 4.

Yeah, I was just about to say that The Familiar of Zero is THE very first “modern” isekai.
 
Not the first isekai in general, no (I think that honor goes to Inuyasha), but it’s definitely one of the series to really cement what it is to be an isekai series.

Scrabbleman is right. There’s definitely older ones than that, stories of a guy sleeping for hundreds of years and waking up basically in a different world (can’t remember their names). Just within anime, Fushigi Yugi, El Hazard, Rayearth, Escaflowne all debuted early-to-mid 90s. There might’ve been ones in the 80s.
 
I mean, what’s “modern” about Zero no Tsukaima exactly? At least with .hack and SAO you can point to the inclusion of being trapped in a virtual world. (They might not even be the first to do that.)
 
Another arguably modern inclusion is the protag actually dying. That wasn’t common back in the day, now it’s a meme.

Astra ep 4. This show continues to be good at opening with the wide-eyed serial adventure style and then making a handbrake turn into harsh sci-fi. This ep’s turn was a bit contrived, but still made for good drama. I like that the characters can barely stand each other.
 
A bit disappointed that Yunfa’s drama didn’t lead to a big explosion. But even with a more subdued scene, Hayami Saori was was still good. (Maybe the blowup will happen later.)
 
 

 
Dumbbell ep 4. That’s it, that’s the show.
 
Honestly, this is getting dull. It’s informative but it’s also just talking at you, it’s not even trying to tell a story. It’s not good at humanizing its characters, which is important if you’re trying to make your subject matter accessible. It doesn’t really make its subject matter feel rewarding. (I never went camping but Yuru Camp still made it look pleasant.) It’s like a powerpoint presentation that occasionally has a lewd panel to wake you up.

It’s amazing how author of Bochi manga planned all characters years in advance. Not something what you could expect from SoL 4koma manga.

A Reactor I’m subscribed to just did the first episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, so I decided to watch the episode myself first.
 
Watched the first 2. It’s fun so far. Neat! Gonna keep watching.
