Time to distract myself with some gay anime. (In both senses of the word.)
Given ep 2. “What am I going to do with this idiot” is the most powerful bond in anime.
I like this show showing Uenoyama’s personality and emotional distance to the other characters through his actions. His respect towards his seniors, and the fact that he’s already trying to better himself after having just met Sato shows that he’s not as brash or emotionally distant as his design might imply. Nakayama and Akihiko noticing the changes in him show that they, too, are not the type of guys who never pick up these sorts of subtleties.
The level of Sato’s airheadedness strains disbelief a little bit, I want to believe even a total neophyte can understand some of what Uenoyama says purely through context. Still, he’s not annoying, and I can understand Uenoyama seeing his younger, more naive self in him. I do feel like there’s going to be some Red Thread stuff down the line (specifically, the guitar), but I buy their current dynamic well enough.
Machikado Mazoku ep 2. If she points at you, it means you’re a rival.
They had some bits about fitness in this ep, and I hope they do more of that because it was honestly better than all of
Dumbbell. I realize this isn’t the show’s focus, but it was integrated better into the story, And the story is better because the bonds between the girls feel stronger. The main pair here have a fun one-sided rivalry going, and friendships feel more genuine.
Dumbbell’s interactions are mostly just the show telling stuff at the audience avatar. And this show is just funnier.
Sentai’s localizations continue to be highly questionable, but the show is managing to rise above it.
