I really need to read the manga. Watched the anime.

I love Familiar of Zero so much

I think the reason I love Louise so much is because everyone makes fun of her and you can tell the reason she is the way she is is because of her family. I mean, the show shows the reason she uses a whip is because she takes it after her sister, who does the same thing in episode 4 of season 2.

 
Carole and Tuesday ep 9. The comedy worked better than the past few eps. Solid performances, as usual. Angie’s performance was particularly moving, and I’ve just had it on repeat for most of the day.
 
The show has been pretty much carried by the performances lately. It’s kinda funny, they’ve been so good that it’s becoming less believable that C&T will (or should) win this competition. Maybe C&T won’t win?
 
 

 
Sarazanmai ep 9. Back to form. Good balance of silly nonsense and solid personal drama. Some really good art and voice work this ep, too.
 
The ReoMabu stuff still hasn’t really worked for me until this ep. I see the parallels in their story to Enta and Kazuki now, both Enta and Reo wanting to go back to a time that is now gone. I don’t exactly get why the show seems to be telling the same story twice, but maybe there will be a interesting payoff to this.
 
Then there’s Chikai and Toi. It’s remarkable how they’ve never really connected with each other despite the familal bond and both characters making extraordinary sacrfices for each other. I think this is a really interesting take on self-sacrifice, the idea that two people should actually find out what they want out of their relationship and themsleves first before doing anything crazy.
 
Ending was bullshit, though.

So, here are my rankings ¾ through my Spring 2019 season. I think the only change I had since last time was dropping BokuBen. As usual, all standards for artistic merit are completely subjective and arbitrary.
 

 
The first four are still pretty close for me, Hitoribocchi getting the top spot because it’s been the most consistent.
 
Carole and Tuesday has been pretty much carried by its performances lately. The comedy has been inconsistent, and it’s made a few questionable narrative decisions. Maybe those decisions will pay off well, but that remains to be seen.
 
Sarazanmai’s emotional moments aren’t really landing as square as they should, particularly Reo and Mabu. I think maybe show spending a lot of time on silly kappa/otter stuff and reused footage is catching up to it. It’s not bad, but I don’t feel like it really has the grounding needed for its story to have the kind of emotional significance it’s aiming for.
 
Star Twinkle has similar issues as Sarazanmai. It’s fun and has some solid themes, but its episodic nature and its strict need to adhere to its magical girl formula keeps it from being more consistent.
 
Kimetsu no Yaiba hasn’t really broken the mold, but I’m at the point where it doesn’t need to. I feel like its plotting and dialogue has been below even My Hero Academia, but it’s getting by on gorgeous character art, excellent choreography and effects, and avoiding really egregious writing decisions. It would be nice if its writing eventually became a legit draw, but it’s still consistently enjoyable.

 
Hitoribocchi ep 10. I am slain. This anime has killed me.
 
An incredibly heartwarming and satisfying conclusion to Sotoka’s arc. I know I’ve talked about it before, but I just love how this show embraces its characters’ awkwardness. It makes this group’s bond so much more powerful. What a good show.
 
Senryuu Shoujo ep 10. Y’know, I realize the show’s gimmick just doesn’t matter very much. They’re still dedicated to it, but Nanako and Kino don’t actually have any trouble communicating at all. But it’s fine, the show’s still good fun. The past two eps have been great.

Re: HitoriBocchi: Not to mention it just feels organic too, which I thought was great. the ending to the episode was also realyl heartwarming to see them both trying to call each other by their names and then running off to throw the shuriken that Hitori made and I also liked the small bit with Kai too.

Just started watching Black Butler. Heard season one is okay, season two is trash, and season three is really good in that order. Fortunately, season two isn’t available so I can’t watch that one even if I wanted to.
 
On the verge of dropping Toradora. Taiga remains irritating AF and at this point I’m not even caring about the main character.

 
Fruits Basket ep 10. A very 90s shoujo episode about hot tough guys with delicate hearts, and a perfect little angel hoping she can erase their pain and anxiety.
 
Tohru really deserves better than this. I guess it’s realistic that people would want to take advantage of her, but it still hurts to watch.

I love action/adventure and I don’t stray away from a drama anime now and then. Comedy is always good too.

Man, My Hero Academia sure uses a lot of stock footage from previous episodes. Is that just a thing with anime?
