Mascot character killed my interest in
Tamako Market. A shame, everything else about it looked at least okay.
Hanebado ep 7 is a mixed bag. The good: the match. I feel like this match works better with the tone of the show, with the transformation scenes beforehand and the impossible levels of athleticism. I feel like this show’s strength, the badminton animation, also works against the rest of the show. Most of the badminton is meant to feel realistic but the show’s drama is a little (okay, a lot) over-the-top and it would probably get away with that better if the animation style matched that.
And now for the bad: the character development. I thought maybe the point of the main character’s character development was how she could now turn her killer instinct on and off because her motivations are different. But no, she has actually totally regressed, even outside the court. Are they trying to show that to be the best in your craft this sort of attitude is necessary? I don’t mind that on principle, but isn’t that the opposite of what they were trying to show earlier in the series? I can accept the main protagonist being thoroughly unlikeable, but she already had an ep where she learned how fun badminton is. Is she going to just learn that again? And how the hell are they going to pull that off when she’s been such a cunt to everyone, including her teammates.
I can’t even say this show is trying to make everyone seem terribly unlikable and we’re meant to detach ourselves from it and just enjoy these bitches being bitches to each other, because they go out of their way to try to humanize them. You can’t expect us to feel for the character just because she’s crying, you have to give us a reason to care. I don’t get this show anymore. Maybe I’ll drop it and just read the manga.
So, I expected
Harukana Receive and
Hanebado to be opposites in terms of tone, but the former knows what it is and pulling it off, and the latter has this weird tonal dissonance.
Hugtto ep 27. Another episode about babies, but this time it’s about the pain of childbirth. No, really.
Fuckin’ hell. I mean, it wasn’t terribly realistic or brutal, but still.
Asobi Asobase ep 6.
Haha, what a funny show this is… haha… …
