Aikatsu Friends ep 65. Hibiki being scared to talk to Alicia about their comeback was hilarious and adorable. I like how realistic the hesitations, doubts, and fears are between Hibiki and Alicia, and I like the interplay between them. I liked how confident they are about their work, and how awkward they are about each other. It’s a good dynamic and a good way to humanize the characters, while not making them just carbon copies of the other units. Good ep.
Re:Stage ep 2 continues the grand anime tradition of putting spoilers in the OP.
This story is similar to Girls und Panzer, with its main character trying to escape her destiny by transferring schools but still getting dragged into it. The ep also goes the route of the LL auditorium scene, but diverged at the last moment. And it’s still doing hand-drawn performances! They’re not amazing, but they’re also not awful, and I appreciate the dedication to the craft. I hope the production holds up.
Takagi-san S2E2. I feel like this show is building up to the main pair holding hands. Not used to watching so many lewd shows in a season.
I might’ve underrated this show from last year, because this is pretty legit. Nishikata’s insecurities are understandable, Takagi is making things happen while not pushing things too far, they have good chemistry. Maybe it’s because I have such a low bar for anime romance, but I feel like this is at least above-average.

I watch anime because I like the stories and aesthetics that the medium has to offer, and I like the wide variety in both of them.
I watch a lot of anime because I like to be challenged by the media I consume, which is why I watch a lot of stuff in a wide variety, and go out of my way to try show I don’t expect to like.
Also I had surgery last month and I’m not allowed to work.

Cop Craft ep 2. Some nice relationship development between the leads, gaining mutual respect without eroding the initial animosity that made them interesting. Kei’s dismissive tone towards Tilarna’s curiosity feels pretty abrasive, but hopefully, this is a potential point of development between the two. Their relationship is still a lot more interesting than the world or the case they’re working on, but maybe those will pick up as the eps go.
The quick cuts and the CG don’t sufficiently disguise the lack of fluid animation. (And some of the CG was pretty bad, like the car going “up” the hill.) Some elements strain my suspension of disbelief a bit, like how skeptical of magic the muggles are when the existence of the other world is well-established. The terrorists talking very loudly about their plans also felt weird. Was that supposed to diffusion the tension? The scene in the hotel also felt weird. Was that just a quick comedy bit to get the (explicitly established legal adult) girl into the guy’s apartment, or a subtle hint at something more insidious is going on?
Star Twinkle ep 23. Their fingers form a star! THEIR FINGERS FORM A STAR!
This week’s ep was about sharing your hardships with your friends. Also, the magic space baby eats an edible and causes problems. The ep was a bit janky, but still enjoyable.

I’m rediscovering Outlaw Star and just how amazing and fun that show was and is. First time I watched it on the Toonami block of Cartoon Network in 2000/01. Now I’ve found out somebody posted the entire series for free up on YouTube and I started rewatching it a few days ago. I don’t want to call it a “classic” because implies that it’s old, and for me 1998 was just yesterday, not 21 years ago like the calendar says. When I saw the title with “Future Hero Next Generation” on it, I really thought I was watching the future. Possibilities seemed limitless for me back in 2000. They seem less so now, but I’m rediscovering the magic of the show; grappler ships, Aisha, Tao magic, awesome soundtrack, did I mention Aisha? So amazing.
