The act of writing reviews in general is just a method of trying to put yourself in a position where you can have as many people as possible liking what you like and disliking what you dislike that’s just dressed up as some bogus pursuit of intellectualism or QA, when in reality it’s all just orated in a way to try and make people feel like they’re enjoying something that can make them feel good about themselves, or hell, even just less bad about themselves, for agreeing with the writer’s opinion.
Eh, strikes me a bit of an over-generalization. Although there sure are a lot of these kinds of reviews and they tend to be rather popular. But maybe I’m just projecting, because when I write reviews (which doesn’t happen often), I do it just for fun. As such, I’m also not trying to sound smart, but just express my opinion (whether I do that well is another question, I’m not exactly a master of rhetoric). And while I do want other people to like what I like (who doesn’t), it doesn’t always have that much motivation on what I write reviews about. My first MAL review was about Bikini Warriors, of all things. And I just wrote a review of Kill La Kill, in which I devoted an entire paragraph to say that it has been done before, but better (and I never wrote a review of Gurren Lagann, nor do I plan to).
