Personally I would prefer the absent one, though in Shadow Weaver’s defense she does love Adora, and is responsible for at least some of Adora’s self esteem and other qualities.

LOL. I feel like whenever this Raya movie comes out, people will start accusing TDP of copying it. It’ll be just like in 2009, with Avatar: The Last Airbender and James Cameron’s Avatar!

I suppose you make fair points, though if nothing else, Disney shouldn’t have given the main character such a close name to that of the main female lead in TDP.
 
I guess we will have to wait and see if there are any other similarities apart from the name. Admittedly, I may have jumped the gun a little bit in calling it a ripoff (though if it is, let’s be honest, I wouldn’t be at all surprised given some of the shady stuff Disney has done in the past).  
But yeah, I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this is really a ripoff.

I think that was more because Raven is and remains a coward, rather than any comment on her parental skills. Though it is a point to Shadow Weaver, who at least has some personal courage. Raven is inclined to run away from anything she isn’t strong enough to just beat into submission.
 
I’ve always found that an interesting comparison to Cinder, who’s suicidally reckless to the point many of her gambits succeed entirely because she is so strong. Raven on the other hand is strong, but over aware of the limits of her strength.
