Of course in this particular case same-tribe might have been best - otherwise we get the unfortunate implication that miscegenation will result in crippled offspring.

There was talk of this in the Headcanon thread recently but given Wind Sprint and Pound Cake can fly just fine despite not having parents that aren’t Pegasai, then I think Scootaloo’s case is likely different. I agree with Frustration in Excelis’ comment that Scootaloo may have a specific problem that has nothing to do with her father being an Earth Pony.

Well “underdeveloped pegasus magic” does sound like the kind of thing miscegenation could lead to, right?
 
It’s not that I want to think that way - I’d rather not. Which is why while I would like to see mixed parents, Scootaloo might not have been the best option.
