Webm size issues

Is there a way to fetch smaller webms from MP4 videos without sacrificing the quality?
 
I tried uploading a vector tutorial video (specifically this one), but the webm once converted was over 100 mb and wouldn’t upload.
 
I’ve seen 1920x1080 webms on here with good quality but a much smaller size. Wondering if there’s a way to optimize them quickly without a long waiting process in converting from MP4 to webm.
 
Once it’s a webm I’ll be able to work from there. I wanted to upload his whole tutorial series since it’s a very valuable asset. 🙂
 
 
Better yet, someone could convert them all to webm and I could upload them 😁

Byte isn’t talking about recompressing… you can download the streams off YT with something like youtube-dl and then post them to Derpi without recompressing, as long as it’s the webm/opus streams and it’s under 100MiB
 
So for that video you could download the 720p without recompressing… 1080p you’d have to recompress, though
 
Just make sure you download the audio stream as well.. and if you have ffmpeg in the same folder then if you download both the video and audio stream (-f 247+251) it’ll automatically put them together for you
 
 
So, put youtube-dl and ffmpeg in the same folder.. (I’m assuming Windows) open the command prompt, drag youtube-dl into it press space then paste the youtube link then press space and then in this case -f 247+251  
To see the streams just do -F (cap sensitive)  
By default it should save to the Windows user folder

EDIT: Finally found the solution. Used YouTube 4k Downloader, which automatically allows you to download directly from YouTube in WEBM. Should be a lot easier now.

it didn’t work properly, you can’t skip through the video.. that part is messed up  
I still suggest just using youtube-dl to make sure it takes the raw streams from YT.. I tested it myself on that video and you can skip through just fine  
If you do use it just make sure youtube-dl.exe and ffmpeg.exe are in the same folder
 
edit: I guess it did take the raw streams BUT it did something weird with the metadata so now you can’t skip through the video and have to watch from beginning to end.. and can’t go back

Found the solution at last. Used Easiest Video Effect 5.1.1. for Windows to merge the audio and webm video separated, which fixed everything! 😀
 
All good now. Just have to copy the sequence with the other videos. 😌

I’ve filed a bug report about incorrect image metadata on upload. It should be fixed in a week or two, and shouldn’t happen again, even if you use weird software combinations to upload video files.

I still suggest using youtube-dl  
I can make a quick 30 second video of how to use it if you want  
I can see pretty significant compression artifacts on >>2569619 AND the file size is significantly higher than just taking the 720p stream and audio directly  
and it does everything automatically… just one program to get the video and audio downloaded and merged in one command

little over 30 seconds but a lot of it is it was downloading slow for some reason.. sometimes that happens.. even though I have a 900mbps connection lol

Still don’t understand why you wouldn’t just use yt-dlp
