It probably came from their romaji’d Pixiv name, which is the first initial source. 天野千草 = Amano Chigusa

That was 4 months ago and I didn’t leave myself any bread crumbs, but if I recall correctly I went with that because it matched their Twitter URL and had the majority of their art at the time. I’ve moved it all to artist:latexia as you suggested.

@bustoblaster - I added the alias for artist:cigusa but stuck with the existing artist:chigusa romanization. Now if you search for either you get the same result. As @Brokedownandmadeone mentioned, that arrangement was finalized 4 months ago and at the time we went with the dominant Hebon-shiki romaji which was already in use on the site. I’ve also added an alias for artist:天野千草 to help prevent confusion.

The tag was taken from their NewGrounds account which uses the “amanochigusa” spelling. By the time we rationalized all of their disparate URLS and tags to one single tag that was the dominant tag on the site. There’s nearly 2,000 people on the site today using the existing spelling of the tag in watches and filters, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem for most users. And as all of the spellings of their name point to the same tag now I don’t believe it will be a problem that’s worth redoing all of the tags. It’s just a question of which romanization you use. The pronunciation is still “天”.

Thank you for the swift response, too swift in fact, lol. I. was just asking for an alias hotfix in the first place. I’ll gladly defer to you current specialists, as it’s been years since I would go on the IRC and frequently have merge requests done on the spot, if the IRC is still even around!

IRC still exists - just look for it on the Contact page (link is on the bottom of the page). If you go there though folks will probably refer you to here anyway, or to me, since I specialize in artist tag aliasing and am the team’s “Moon Runes” go to person.
 
For what it’s worth, we have the same problem with every single instance of “天” or similar syllables on the site for which there’s the traditional ‘Hepburn’ romanization but a more modern or alternative method available.
 
Obviously, going with something like ISO 3602 Strict would be better, but a lot of the stuff here on the site is crowd sourced, and where we don’t have direct guidance from an artist who has a profile here on the site, in a lot of cases whatever the first instance of it on the site is ends up being the one we stick with, simply because enforcing a strict romanization doesn’t add additional value.
 
And, admittedly, there is some personal bias involved. Because I have a lot of exposure to Japanese I tend to put a ‘Tokyo’ accent on things like “天” so stuff like “chi” just sounds more natural than “ci”.
