I sense that you do not understand what aliasing is or what it does on this site.
If there are two tags, both which mean the same thing, but one of them is “more correct”, the “less correct” tag is “aliased into” the more correct tag.
The surviving tag is “vroom broom”. The less correct tag was aliased into “vroom broom”. Both still work, but “vroom broom” is the canonical tag and if you type the wrong tag you still will get the right results.
And with “fanfic:the lost element” I assume that someone tagged the fanfic without the “fanfic:” preface, so those older “the lost element” tags were aliased into the canonical tag. The “fanfic:” nomenclature is a fairly recent add to the site, so I am guessing there are a lot of “fanfic:*” tags with aliases on them.

Yes - the alias means that no matter which tag you type, you get the right one.
