General Tag Discussion

Could some guidance be added to the womb tattoo and pubic tattoo tag descriptions to clarify the difference between them? Or alias them if they’re the same thing?

Looking through those tags, I don’t think I’d really be opposed to having them aliased. “hips” is essentially used in the same way as “wide hips”, I don’t think it would be useful as a “regular-sized hips” or “hips are present” sort of tag, and even if it was, people would use it to mean “wide hips” regardless.

Looking through the results once more, “hips” certainly looks to be used to mean “wide hips,” but then I add “screencap” and there are several cropped pictures which probably don’t qualify as wide hips. So if “hips” is aliased to “wide hips,” some kind of ‘hips focus’ tag should be created for all those ‘hipshots.’

I just learned there’s already a leg focus tag though. Turns that’s where the description for legs was. So, that tag already has a description available, it just needs to be brought to it. Maybe with something like ‘despite the name, imagine this to be thigh focus in contrast to the whole leg of leg focus,’ haha.

Yeah, clunky is a good word to use, especially when those ‘minutia’ tags bring an upload to wall of tags territory when it wasn’t there without them. Equestria Girls clothes alone already mean many tags if you want to be thorough, sometimes.

Looking at eyes open, it’s the same gulf between it and eyes closed as between the mouth tags. I can imagine browsing specifically for “closed mouth,smiling” in the name of art references, but that’s all. And they won’t find even 50 results as of now, anyway.

Thanks for the help.

I need more clarification about hats, please.

That’s a sports visor on her head, correct? This specific picture is already tagged visor, which… isn’t the same thing according to the results. At all.

I want to make sure before I bring the sports visor tag up from its grand total of 7 results.

Looking into the visor tag not only has this one result, but also has multiple other results of non-eyewear visors, starting as far back as some of the least recent results. This continues appearing in what I think is roughly 1 of 17 images throughout all results over time for the tag.

Is that enough to make sports visor instead imply visor?

We should avoid tag names being misleading like that wherever possible. I’m already regularly having to fix times when teats is used as a synonym for crotchboobs.
Background Pony #26C1
Is there a tag for this sort of face?

Faces where failing to account for muzzle anatomy makes for a very uncanny grin.

The tag for this used to be faic, but that’s since evolved into a broader “silly faces” tag.
Background Pony #216C
Given the recent collab, it’s probably a good idea to add descriptions to the star dancer and stardancer tags to point out the difference.

What exactly is the difference between beefspike and gigachad spike?

From where I sit, ‘beefspike’ refers to Spike’s fantasy-self from A Dog and Pony Show and other episodes, whereas ‘gigachad spike’ refers to Spike’s future-self featured in The Last Problem.

Yet, some users seem to confuse ‘beefspike’ and ‘gigachad spike’ with an older version of Spike (older spike), a version of Spike who happens to have muscles or both. For example:

I would also like to point out that one exception I know of in regards to the latter tag is a series of art by papadragon69. As far as I know, as an anthro-esque render of gigachad spike does not exist, he had to make one of his own for his anthro-based content which takes place post-Twilight’s Second Coronation in “The Last Problem.”

Examples:
https://derpibooru.org/images/2330553
https://derpibooru.org/images/2340505

Although, there are also some of uses of said tag on his art that I do question.

https://derpibooru.org/images/2350645
https://derpibooru.org/images/2234479

It seems that there are many cases where these tags should not be used and instead, other tags, such as ‘older spike,’ ‘adult spike’ and even this one tag I’ve found called ‘buff spike,’ should be used.

Not being nitpicky (Or well… being a little bit nitpicky), but isn’t the tag 1000 hours in MS paint a bit mean to artists? It’s basically placing a “This sucks” tag or something.

If it’s being applied in a mean spirited way, it can be a Rule #0 or #2 violation, especially if some artist is adding it to their competition’s images just because they’re salty.

But for a lot of people ‘1000 hours in MS Paint’ is an ‘aesthetic’ - an approach to edits or art that is more like 8bit or ‘art so bad it’s good’ stuff. A lot of the ‘Web 2.0’ April Fool’s art basically was ‘1000 hours in MS Paint’ in a nostalgic way.

So, it depends.

If you see the tag being added inappropriately, especially if someone is spamming some artist’s work with that tag, then please report it - there’s a chance that might be some tear-streaked bitter revenge tagging that we want to make sure gets reversed and the tagger gets talked to.

But, in general, it’s kind of a mark of fondness and nostalgia.

And, being completely serious now - there’s some 1,000 hours in MS Paint art that is AMAZING, but it was, literally, the result of 1,000 hours in MS Paint.

So, if you see that tag being used in a suspicious or inappropriate way, or being used to tease or bully and artist, please report it.

I’d say those are palette swaps. At least based on the episodes of Pony Life I’ve seen… that’s the only appearance of the color-swapped Mane 6, right?

@Background Pony #26C1
As far as I can tell, womb tattoos are tattoos of womb shapes, while pubic tattoos are tattoos around the genitals. I’ve added descriptions to both and implications to “tattoo”.

@Knight of the Raven
Visor tagging looks like it could be used as a rework, since there are two distinct uses: eyewear and headwear. I think renaming the hat kind to “sports visor” would work here. Don’t think having “sports visor” imply “visor” would make sense though.

@Background Pony #26C1
I think “faic” is all there is for stuff like this.

Lately there’s been some staff discussion on how to tag sets like this. I’ve been using “part of a set” for a while, but other staff tend to use “alternate version” instead, and there’s some consideration to creating a whole new tag for images where the character is changed as part of a YCH set.

@Background Pony #216C
Added pictures and warnings to each character’s tag description.

@Brainless-Mind
That’s my general understanding as well.

How do we tag a pony’s name if they go by a different name than usual in a series?
In the d20 Pony series/cyoa/webcomic/game (which is super fun and you all should check it out), Moondancer’s sister / Morning Roast is called Dawn Break since there wasn’t a consensus on her name yet when she first appeared there mid-2016.
Obviously her official name has to be tagged, but should she get an additional dawn break tag, too? oc:dawn break? dawn break (d20 pony)? Together with alternate name?

Aye, cheers for the quick reply! I was wondering because I saw it on the Pixelorama art of a friend and was kinda worried.

I think the general policy is just to use whatever the standard tag for that character is. For example, >>2597797 (NSFW) is tagged as rainbow blitz even though the image itself uses the name “Rainbow Flash” instead.
