curiouscat (and retrospring apparently) are sites that act like what tumblr ask blogs used to do. Sending questions (asks) to users and they answer. Twitter users have been using this for some time now.

If so, why alias instead of implying?

I figured since it was something from tumblr and never specified to be a “tumblr only” tag at any point, it would be a benefit search-wise for anyone looking for that specific content since it’s the same thing. Only real difference is branding, and I don’t think anyone would be looking for tumblr, cc, or rs specifically. Just the core “I want to find images of a character(s) being asked things”
