"combat armor" should imply "armor"

What exactly does “combat armor” mean here? It seems to be for modern/futuristic armor in contrast to the old-fashioned metal armors common in the show and whatnot. The tag could use a definition.

Good question… My first result on Google for that phrase is on a Fallout wiki, and indeed about half the tagged images are about Fallout Equestria.
Otherwise, just by the wording, I could see it used to distinguish from ceremonial armor (not purpose-built for protection), but so few images are tagged with it I’d guess it’s instead being used as some more specific reference. Perhaps merek or icey wicey 1517 could weigh in, since they tag/upload with it a fair amount?

Years of video games and tabletop experience tell me that combat armor indeed refers to any modern or futuristic armor that’s not powered. So, any (actual) armor from the Mass Effect franchise, the eponymous combat armor of the Fallout universe, the usual gear of the Imperial Guard and Tau footsoldiers of Warhammer 40,000… along with what troops wear nowadays in the real world.
In contrast, power armor would be modern or futuristic armor with an energy source, whether internal (Fallout fusion cores) or external (space marine power packs in Warhammer 40,000). The experience I mentioned tells me part of the power requirement is the sheer weight of the armor; the point is to make a literal walking tank, something the enemy has to bring anti-materiel weapons to have a hope to deal with.
(Not sure if that’s the case in Fallout: Equestria; Enclave power armor is sometimes drawn thin enough to look like it uses the post-apocalyptic version of mithril, and that may be canon to that AU.)

Gotcha. I added “Modern or futuristic armor made for combat” as a brief description, dunno if it’s necessary but it’s there.
