I wanted to know where everyone else was before choosing a place so I didn’t step on anyone’s toes, so to speak. But I’d probably go for the area around Egypt and into Asia Minor, up to the Fertile Crescent. So modern-day Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq as the core, and if I’m allowed, extending a bit alongside the African side of the Mediterranean, and towards Turkey.
 
But starting location, should that be important, would be in the Nile Valley.

(Okay, I already have Humans in Iraq and isreal but don’t be afraid to try Expand into there, plus you can still expand into the Arabian peninsula, though you might want to wait a while before expanding south into the Arabian Peninsula because of how historically it was hard for Civilization to exist there in the bronze age/early Iron age.

In that case, how about the African side of the Mediterranean and Egypt? That’ll do. Though, to confirm, I think Northern Europe and the British Isles are taken? Either that or they’re not suited for civilizations… and I want to make sure the Nile gets some love.
 
And for species… ugh, unfortunately I’m trying to tie the location in to the species. Egypt et al would work for the Sphynxes, possibly with other monsterpone or Zebra allies, but the Nightponies - batponies and their unicorn and earth pony counterparts - I feel would work better in Europe, either central or south-eastern…
 
The problem is there’s just too many awesome possible species to choose from! Hmm… a compromise - Egypt, as well as their closest neighbors across the Mediterranean - south Greece and southwest Turkey, if that makes sense. These will be the three domains of the Nightponies, which shall have the color of violet or indigo depending on what works better with the map. Though scattered, I plan for them to be skilled with trade routes, not just across the sea but south into Africa as well, where the monsterpones dwell.
