It was not an accident. She did exactly what she meant to do. Mind control her friends. She only regretted it because it worked too well.

Starlight episodes are a mess, to be honest. But they’re a mess because the TV show isn’t consistent to being with. If Friendship is Magic was consistent, she would be at least an interesting character.

That being said, The last problem was a nice ending of the show, so good that the flaws of the TV show are a bit less annoying, which is great.

@Terminal Red
Are you saying that because of the first minutes of The Last Problem, when Luster Dawn says that she doesn’t believe in friendship to solve problems?

Because she kinda changes her mind at the end of the episode.

But like, she literally did banish him from school grounds. Her dialogue afterwards doesn’t make sense if we’re supposed to believe that she genuinely tried to kill him.

And he was actively trying to piss her off, and made it look like he was endangering her students by chasing them around the pitch with a bugbear. How can you blame Starlight for “scaring students” and brush what Discord did as just “being annoying.” You’re ignoring this to make Starlight look worse. I feel like a lot of Starlight hate indulges in this. It either ignores things or applies more malice to an action than actually exists.

Like, the rage virus is no worse than Twilight’s Want it Need It spell. In fact, I’d argue it’s not as bad since Twilight chose to use her spell on literal children, and it went on to infect the entire town. Starlight’s anger getting out was an accident that only affected 3 people. But the way people word it, you’d think Starlight chose to infect Ponyville with her anger.

But that results in a lot of complaints about Starlight being overblown and unfair. Everything she does is read as uncharitably as possible by some people because they believe she “deserves it”, but that creates a feedback loop where they read what she does in the worst light possible, then use that worst possible reading of what she’s done as “evidence” to justify reading her in the worst possible light in the future. So many people list “Tries to kill Discord” as a reason they dislike Starlight, when that’s an extreme reading of the episode that’s contradicted by a fair amount in it. Then when that person is asked “Why do you hate Starlight?” in the future, that’s listed there, even though they probably wouldn’t have listed that as a mark against Starlight if they didn’t already hate her.

It’s kinda like how a movie that’s considered “Bad” is normally accused of having more plot holes than it actually has. Just because it’s considered fair game.

Never said she Tried to kill him. I said she Disintergrated him, which she did. His physical body disperated into particles in that beam. The moment she loses her cool she resorts to overwhelming, landscape destroying magical violence on her friend.

Discord deserved it. But it don’t make Starlight any better considering the lessons she’s supposedly learned by this point.

So many people try to defend Starlight by deflecting to other characters fuck up’s, as if that somehow Absolves starlight. Due to Starlights history and crimes, her propensity for mind control and magic abuse will always be worse in context because of where she came from, who she is and what she did.

We don’t need to make up reasons to hate her. She gives plenty reasons all on her own.
