I mean I know that and I can understand the disappointment but now that time has passed and we’re looking at it in hindsight, I don’t see it as one of the worst brony fanmade works.

In terms of other brony works that I think didn’t age well, I would also point out the Rainbow Factory song by WoodenToaster. I never liked the song, its shelf life was incredibly short and the dubstep beat is messy and clunky and the vocals have this awful robot voice that it’s hard to understand what he’s saying, not that the writing is the best thing ever either

Like the others have said, the reason why Double Rainboom got a lot of hate is because of all the hype backed up around it.

It was hyped up by the creator as being not only a fan animation that was the length of an actual MLP episode, but also with the same animation quality as an actual episode too. The fact that this was also in the fandoms early years and it got previewed a lot at cons also helped boost its popularity too.

then the actual video came out and it turned into a random PPG crossover, then that’s when the backlash came in becuase that was never mentioned or advertised before it.

The animation itself isn’t bad, it’s just the plot of the whole thing and the massive bait and switch that happened that a lot of people had issues with.

Also as for Snowdrop and Lullaby Of A Princess i haven’t seen them nor do i care about watching them so no comment on their quality

Good explanation about Double Rainboom, but the animation done for Lullaby for a Princess is easily one of the fandom’s finest works. If you don’t want to watch it, cool, but that animation and Snowdrop are leagues apart.

Anything to do with creepypasta fic is just the ow the edge part of the fandom. Rainbow Factory itself is a edgy fanfic about killing children that for some reason many people like.

It’s also one of those fanworks that propagates Scootabuse.

It was such a bait & switch that when RD arrived in Townsville, it almost immediately popped up with a copyright disclaimer about content owned by Cartoon Network, because it had been kept such a twist that that was literally the latest frame it could be shown.

Also, why PPG? Because of Lauren Faust?

I guess making a cutesy property dark and edgy to subvert it is a popular thing that people like to do as tacky as it is. Next thing you know there’ll be art and fics of the Paw Patrol puppies suffering animal abuse or the adults in Bluey abusing their children because subversions I guess

Though I do get why Snowdrop is so disliked while Rainbow Factory and Cupcake aren’t now.

Many fanworks in the past (both edgy and sad alike) liked to easily tug the heartstrings, sometimes without taking care of the substance.

As noted with Snowdrop, there well some details that for some people feel rather manipulative, while Rainbow Factory for example went into a different direction albeit using the same method of resorting to a blast of emotion to cover the rather icky substance.

It’s actually a common thing that many times fan material often resorted to emotional manipulation to catch upon viewers, sometimes at expenses of the quality of the fic. Heck, Cupcakes was meant to be an absurd grimdark fic for the sake of shits and giggles but people took it too seriously for its own sake.

And references also, because nowadays if something isn’t chokfilled with references then is not worth it it seems.

Sometimes I feel people are addicted to sadness.

It’s kinda funny how Pinkie from Cupcakes got merged with straight-haired Pinkie from Party of One. Part of the dissonance in Cupcakes is that it’s regular Pinkie, who still acts like everyday Pinkie, doing these horrible things. Then again, Pinkie is legitimately losing her mind in that season 1 episode…

Also, calling her Pinkamena has always been interesting to me, because that’s just her full first name. Guess it sounds more formal? Serious?

Also also, I have mixed feelings on Lullaby for a Princess. It feels like an in-between of a more painting-like style and an attempt to add more detail to a show-accurate style. I’ve always felt iffy about how their manes look, for example.

They did not have to go that hard, but damn they really went and sang a song that was “Everyone fucking died and it’s all your fault.”

MLP version of A Christmas Carol goes harder than the original version.

Initially, I wasn’t enthusiastic about an adaptation of A Christmas Carol because it’s been done so many times. I was wrong. The episode was great. I’d hold up Luna’s Future as one of the best songs from the show.

Yeah, that’s definitely one of the best episodes of s6 - but I do have an unpopular opinion regarding that: “Luna’s Future” is actually my least favorite song from the episode. I still find it very good, it’s just not a certified bop in my view like the other songs.

I think it’s because it feels like the song is building to something more, something grander, but then it just ends and so it feels kind of unfinished to me.

Yeah, she did it multiple times only that one time.

Because she’s awesome like that.

I’m a fan of both characters but I really don’t like Trixie x Starlight

I really wish they focused more on Zipp’s scientific side. It could be fun to see her do stuff like aerodynamics or by extension going underwater. It could be useful for worldbuilding too and Sunny would probably need her help in that.

It’d be educational too for the girls watching to teach about science.

Also I kind of dislike her being a detective. I find it really dull compared to when she leaening how to fly.

I just liked Snowfall Frost in that episode
