What still gets me about Lightning Dust is that the trading card game had a quote from Rainbow Dash implying that she was gonna help out the mane 6 with something and get a redemption arc, and yet that never happened.
I would have preferred something like that over her final apperance being strapped to a rocket and blowing up

Judging by her send off(pun intended) and the fact they left her out of the finale I’m convinced the staff never wanted to bring LD back in the first place and only did so because they fandom practically begged them too(and if that’s the case they never should have teased fans so many times)

Unpopular opinions ? Oh yeah i got a few of those. Just saying, it’s just my personnal opinion and i’m fine justyfing it if someone is interested.
1 - Making Daring Doo a real pony instead of an in-universe fiction was a terrible idea and made no sense at all.
2 - Discord is an annoying character who shouldn’t have made it beyond Season 2.
3 - Spike was unironically a really good character during the first season but got flanderized at supersonic speed and became one of the worst by the end of the show.
4 - Lightning Dust deserved way better. She could have been a fantastic rival character.
  1. I never cared for this criticism at all, I didn’t mind at all that she became real
  2. I agree, but only by the time Season 8 rolled around
  3. Hard disagree on that, fam
  4. Maybe, I would’ve been interested to see what they would’ve done with her

I was disappointed how the fights always were just shooting lasers at each other, with the occasional shield. For supposedly magical prodigies, these unicorns, or other horned creatures, don’t seem to know any other offensive spells or how to be creative other than “shoot to hit or hope the other guy’s laser doesn’t overpower yours”.

@DerpyFast
That fight was meant to just serve the narrative purpose of Celestia being floored as an “oh shit” moment, such as that even the villain herself was surprised by it. @WaynePonePone is completely right. It really isn’t a statement saying much, at that point.
On that note, since it came up on a rewatch, I think Chrysalis genuinely felt better as a villain before her army became a factor in her debut; the mind games with Twilight she might’ve been going for from the get-go (if the way she acted in the first scene was any indication), “You will be.” the duet, etc. She then played second fiddle to her own army because she didn’t really do anything herself, at any point after defeating Celestia.
IMO, To Where and Back Again utilized her better in that regard, because of how it built up to seeing her again, and she delivered on creepiness and menace factor (contorting herself, throwing Starlight around, trying to make an example out of Thorax, promising vengeance instead of taking a hoof).
@Background Pony #A60B
On that note, Starlight vs Chrysalis is quite arguably the best fight in FiM for the fact that she was clearly outmatched in power, and put in her best for outthinking her on the spot, succeeding — only to lose from Chrysalis pulling out a big AOE attack that blew up the mountain and knocked her out with the shockwave, because she was just that powerful.
But yeah, I do kinda get that; no inverting gravity, no speed boosting shenanigans, etc, etc. That’s something fanfics can (potentially) be better at.

That epic showdown between Twilight and Tirek in the S4 finale was as hardcore as fights ever got in the history of MLP.

@Mr.Myoozik
It also validated my favored interpretation that Starlight has great tactical intelligence, skill, and doesn’t necessarily need to be as powerful to keep up with an opponent, so that was another plus for it.
As good as the Twilight vs Tirek fight was, it was kind of shallow in the grand scheme of things; it only happened because Tirek didn’t deploy the “hostages” card immediately. It’s hard to say gingerninja666 didn’t have a point there.
That said, the fight had a really good lead-up to it in that seeing him destroy Twilight’s house can put you in her mindset well; you wanted to see Tirek go down hard for trashing it, having gotten attached.

I honestly hated both hostage situations as it cheapens the whole thing for the sake of making “emotional” stuff.

Tirek vs Pillars is definitely the worst one for me. The great Pillars spoken about in legends and stories, taken apart one by one like toys by Tirek who doesn’t even have full power. Even Celestia put up some challenge for Chrysalis.

I feel the same way, but Tirek WAS ultra powered. So unfortunately it made sense.
I was sad originally that they didn’t bring Stygian with them but the guy would have been worse off than even them.

@Toastypk
Perhaps if they’d gotten Stygian, he would’ve strategized a victory plan, or at least maybe they would’ve put up a better fight instead of, well, what happened; that was his whole deal, after all, strategy. They Leeroy’d themselves into oblivion… but yeah, that was definitely the most underwhelming thing of all, Tirek being uber-powerful or not. They jobbed way too hard, if they’re going down like bowling pins, of all things, being such sitting ducks.
@AC97
@Mr.Myoozik
Yeah, it really isn’t a fair comparison. A good chunk of ACW hinged on novelty. Chrysalis: The Concept is way better than Chrysalis: The Actual Character.
As for the other fights:
Twilight vs Tirek is still a great fight. The goal is to sell the sheer power of the combatants, and all of the blows land with a satisfying impact. I think the fight itself peaks with Twilight hitting Tirek point-blank. It probably has the best actual fight choreography.
Twilight vs Starlight is one of the coolest fights conceptually. They have to adapt to each other’s strategies, and Starlight has the advantage not because she’s stronger, but because she gave herself the easier win condition.
I only watched The Ending of The End the one time. Starlight vs Chrysalis is probably the fight with the best dialogue.
Celestia vs Nightmare Moon is underrated, and is by far the most emotional.
For what they could get away with in Season One, Twilight vs Nightmare Moon isn’t bad.
There’s definitely some recency bias, but Sunny vs Opaline is a serious contender for my favourite fight.

That Starlight vs Chrysalis fight was peak fight sequence, makes the Twilight and Tirek fight look like a sandbox fight
i definitely cant agree with this. starlight vs chrysalis was cool though
